Job Summary:
The RAAM Clinic Peer Support Worker helps support different pathways to recovery and harm reduction for patients who use substances. Integral to the RAAM team, the Peer Support Worker helps to empower individuals to achieve their hopes, dreams, and goals, and connect with them in a manner unique to having shared experiences. A Peer Support Worker has lived through similar experiences and is trained to support others. Peer support persons are aware of community resources and can connect clients to services that will help them on their journey of wellness.
Qualifications:
• Completion of or willingness to complete Peer Support Canada’s RAAM Peer Support Worker Certification Level 1 considered a strong asset.
• Two years related experience (volunteering or paid), preferably in peer support working with individuals with substance use.
• Lived experience of a substance use concern.
• Able to interact comfortably with humans who are active in their addictions and maintain professional boundaries while engaging with empathy and compassion.
• A satisfactory vulnerable sector and criminal record clearance is required.
• Familiarity with First Nations culture and local services and resources.
• Basic level computer skills.
• Strong advocate for harm reduction and trauma-informed care.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Excellent interpersonal relations and ability to engage positively with patients and team members.
