Job description

We are seeking a Project Coordinator Co-op student to join our Ledcor Highways Team! The Project Coordinator, under the guidance of the project team, provides technical and management support to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

In this role, the successful applicant will gain experience in highway maintenance operations including quality management, estimating, contract administration, financial responsibilities, equipment operation and maintenance, crew, project, and activity management. This role offers an opportunity to develop hands-on project skills at the site level and on-the-ground experience within highway maintenance and construction, aiming to develop successful front-line supervisors and future opportunities within Ledcor's Highway Maintenance group.

Essential Requirements:

  • Perform work safely and promote a positive safety culture
  • Learn about technical, operational, and managerial aspects of Highway Maintenance
  • Conduct quality inspections and audits on field conditions and records
  • Assist with reviewing client feedback and technical inquiries
  • Support data analysis for winter storm response, highway patrols, road surfacing, culvert and drainage works, vegetation control, etc.
  • Perform quality control testing per industry standards
  • Compile and compare test results with standards and present findings to stakeholders
  • Maintain project quality documents and conduct field inspections
  • Ensure calibration and proper functioning of testing instruments
  • Support subcontractor management throughout the project
  • Assist with procurement processes
  • Support project controls and reporting
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Working towards a diploma or degree in civil engineering or related field
  • 0-1 year relevant experience or relevant education
  • Ability to build relationships, work in a team, communicate effectively, and influence stakeholders
  • Knowledge of office processes like subcontract management, change orders, RFIs, purchase orders
  • Strong communication skills and ability to read construction documents
  • Technical proficiency with MS Word, Excel, scheduling software; experience with government clients is a plus
  • Physical ability to lift materials up to 20 kg to a height of 3 feet
  • Problem-solving skills based on defined procedures
