Job description

We’re seeking someone to join our E-trade mobile android team as a Lead Android Engineer in Client Platforms to drive the evolution of our flagship E*TRADE Android application used by millions of customers. You will provide technical leadership to a cross-functional product squad (engineering, design, product, QA) while setting standards for code quality, architecture, performance, security, and developer experience. This role combines deep Android expertise with pragmatic leadership and a passion for delivering trustworthy, high-performing fintech user experiences.

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Lead Software Engineering position at Vice President level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

Since 1935, Morgan Stanley is known as a global leader in financial services, always evolving and innovating to better serve our clients and our communities in more than 40 countries around the world.

We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented engineer passionate about building exceptional mobile experiences and driving technical excellence. If you thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy solving challenging problems, we'd love to hear from you!

What you’ll do in the role:
  • Lead a feature squad to add new features to our flagship E*TRADE Android application.
  • Own end-to-end design and delivery of complex mobile features and platform capabilities.
  • Construct, enhance, and troubleshoot native Android applications in an agile, collaborative environment.
  • Write production Kotlin daily; set and enforce standards for readability, testability, performance, and security; champion automated quality gates (static analysis, code metrics, coverage thresholds).
  • Align closely with Product, Design, Platform, and Backend teams to balance feasibility, scope, and quality.
  • Coach engineers through design reviews, pair programming, and constructive feedback; help grow future technical leaders.
  • Partner with security/compliance teams to ensure safe handling of credentials, secure networking, anti-tampering, and threat modeling in a regulated environment.
  • Advocate for build speed reductions, test parallelization, dependency hygiene, and release pipeline optimizations.
  • Translate technical decisions and risks into clear, actionable context for non-technical partners and leadership.
Qualifications

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • 10+ years of professional experience building and maintaining large-scale Android applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expert-level Kotlin (including Coroutines, Flows, inline & higher-order functions, generics, sealed hierarchies).
  • Deep experience with Jetpack Compose.
  • Strong grasp of Android Architecture Components (MVVM, Navigation, Room), dependency injection (e.g., Dagger/Hilt), modularization strategies, and clean architectural principles.
  • Proven success leading technical design for multi-sprint initiatives and coordinating delivery across multiple contributors.
  • Advanced concurrency, threading, and synchronization knowledge.
  • Proven experience with unit testing and UI testing frameworks.
  • Demonstrated track record of high productivity in application architecture, design, coding, and debugging.
  • Fluency with Git-based branching strategies, code review best practices, and CI systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of mobile performance, latency, and security issues, with hands-on experience using performance analysis tools.
  • Solid grasp of current technological trends, best practices in information security, wireless network architecture, mobile technologies, and related concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills: can distill complexity, influence decisions, and align stakeholders.
