Job description

CONTROL ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER - INDUSTRIAL SECTION

  • Package : R612 480.00 per annum plus benefits (offer will be based on appropriate and recognizable experience in line with the OSD requirements).

Requirements :

  • Grade 12 plus Honours Degree (NQF Level 8) in Environmental Management or Natural Sciences/Management as recognized by SAQA. 6 years’ relevant experience in environmental field. EMI training or SHERQ, IS01400, SAMTRAC or Industrial experience will be an added advantage. Valid drivers’ license.Competencies: Good interpersonal, planning, coordination and project and document management skills. Excellent written, verbal communication and budgeting skills. Sound experience in investigating environmental issues and the interpretation of the environmental law. Sound knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) review process, environmental law and/or environmental management systems, the application and implementation thereof. Knowledge and experience in the following fields: industrial pollution, waste management compliance inspections, management of NEMA s30 incidents, Environmental management systems, GIS, environmental enforcement procedures and prosecution.

Duties :

  • The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to all officials reporting under them in terms of undertaking all relevant compliance monitoring and inspection activities and plans on landfill sites, waste management facilities and management of NEMA s30 incidents. Fulfil and implement pre-inspection, inspection and post inspection activities within the stipulated timeframes. Participate in Departmental plans and programs. Understand all relevant Departmental administrative procedures. Support the Directorate in the compilation of budgets and tracking the expenditure thereof. Ensures that the sub-directorate attains the objectives and carries out the tasks. Provide strategic direction and leadership. Authorised to sign off on work (content and quality) in the sub-directorate. Responsible for dividing and allocating work, setting priorities, monitoring the quality and the unity of the performance, co-ordination and internal and external harmonisation and integration. Contribute to policymaking and implementation of specific measures within the directorate. Participate in internal and external consultative bodies. Lead planning process (strategy, business planning, project and budgeting). Management of human, financial resources and administrative systems
