Job summary

A vehicle maintenance company in Gauteng is seeking a Qualified Artisan Mechanic to coordinate fleet maintenance activities, manage a team, and ensure optimal vehicle performance. The candidate must have a valid driver's license (Code EC) and extensive experience in heavy-duty vehicle maintenance. The role requires strong communication skills, effective time management, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
  • Valid Code EC (or EC1 or C) driver's license and PrDP required.
  • Knowledge of workshop procedures and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and implementing vehicle fleet maintenance activities.

Job description
Responsibilities

Coordinating and implementing vehicle fleet maintenance activities. Managing vehicle fleet activities to ensure optimal performance. Ensuring the efficient utilization of human resources within the workshoppiling and presenting management reports. Supervising and managing a team of subordinates. Ensuring maximum vehicle availability daily. Verifying the roadworthiness of all vehicles. Providing after-hours support to service technicians. Upholding the service department budget.

Working Conditions

Normal Truck Centre Durban working environment.

Requirements

Qualified Artisan Mechanic Certification. Valid Code EC (or EC1 0.4 or C) driver's license and PrDP. Proven experience in heavy‑duty vehicle maintenance. Expertise in servicing and repairing automotive components. Auto Electrical experience (advantageous). Relevant supervisory experience. Knowledge: In‑depth knowledge of the commercial vehicle industry. Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Familiarity with workshop procedures. Knowledge of disciplinary policies and procedures.

Skills

Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Effective time management. Supervisory and leadership skills. Report writing and fault‑finding expertise. Basic computer literacy (an advantage).
