Job summary

A leading food ingredient manufacturer is seeking a Workshop Technician to join their team in Cape Town. You will be responsible for troubleshooting complex machinery, performing routine maintenance, and providing customer support. The ideal candidate has a Millwright qualification with at least 5 years of experience in the FMCG sector, is fluent in English and Afrikaans, and is willing to be on-call. Workshop and Field Service Technician

Type: Permanent

Location: CPT - Southern Suburbs

Seniority Level: Mid Career (5 - 6 yrs exp)

A leading food ingredient manufacturer and equipment supplier is seeking a Workshop Technician to join their team. The position reports to the Regional Workshops and Spares Manager. The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshooting, repair of complex machinery in a professional / timely manner.
  • Reading and understanding of manuals/blueprints/diagrams/mechanical schematics and electrical diagrams.
  • Running trails/tests on equipment and interpreting the result into further recommendations.
  • Undertaking installation/commissioning/training on equipment.
  • Writing up reports based on findings/service on equipment.
  • Performing routine maintenance on complex equipment at site or in the workshop.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and use technical judgement on complex tasks.
  • Prompt assistance/advise to customers with queries / breakdowns in an appropriate manner.
  • Ensure customers’ expectations are exceeded in respect to quality and service.
  • Respond immediately to requests for workshop breakdowns to customers.
  • Action customer services as per schedule.
  • Analyse the cause of the problem.
  • Arrange quotes for customers to authorise repairs.
  • Maintain safety standards both at in-house and at customers.
  • Form part of the standby team.
Key Requirements

Qualified Millwright with an electrical background. At least 5 years’ experience working within a related field. Experience in the FMCG sector is essential. Must be willing to be on-call duty every second week, which may include Saturdays and Sundays. Valid driver's license and willing to travel. Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
