Job summary

A leading automotive manufacturer in South Africa is seeking a Quality Engineer to ensure product quality and process improvements in the manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have an engineering qualification and at least 3 years of experience in manufacturing and quality. Responsibilities include managing quality audits, improving product quality, and ensuring compliance with ISO standards. Competitive compensation is offered for this critical role.

Qualifications

  • University Engineer Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering or Production or Quality Management related qualification.
  • 3 years experience in a Manufacturing and/or Assembly environment.
  • 3 years engineering experience in production, quality or press part evaluation.
  • Analytical ability.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • PC skills and Microsoft software.
  • Planning and coordinating skills.
  • Cross cultural experience in dealing with all levels of people.
  • Comprehensive understanding of ISO 9001/14001, OSHA 18001 and relevant site standards.
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and Environmental legislation.

Job description
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Steers body quality to ensure effective use of resources. Determine and allocate quality problems to problem owners and departments.
  • Is responsible and accountable for the quality related MPMs – the development and implementation.
  • Ensures problem solving conformance to specified MPM.
  • Manages the problem-solving process to effective conclusion.
  • Ensures traceable documentation of quality problems and their corrective actions.
  • Promotes adherence to agreed processes that affect Painted body quality.
  • Initiated and develops new processes to facilitate pro-active quality improvements.
  • Escalation to the next level in the event of non performance of problem solving efforts.
  • Represent Paint Body to the internal customers, suppliers.
  • Ensures transparency of quality performance from all areas that affect the product quality.
  • Liaises with the other plants around the world to ensure implementation of best practices.
  • Continuously determines best practices from the literature and used this to drive improvements in product quality. and Quality departments are adequately and effectively represented in BMW SA (Pty) Ltd.
Quality
  • To Support the team in achieving all products, process and system quality targets (as per the Target Management Process. TMP).
  • Ensure adherence to the IMS (Integrated Management System) into ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 within his area of control.
  • Continuously initiates improvements towards set targets.
  • Actively respond to internal/external customer requirements.
  • Attend daily audit feedback sessions and filter information back to team.
Flexibility
  • Support the team in achieving the flexibility targets (as per TMP).
  • Ensure all workers are familiar with process procedures and understand the impact of their specific function on the total process.
  • Endeavor to smooth out erratic workload.Identify delays and solve future occurrences.
  • To maintain and co-ordinate production schedule within his area of control.
Productivity
  • Support his manager and implement measures to achieve Budget, Headcount and Quality Targets (as per TMP).
  • To manage and control all associates allocated to area of responsibility.
  • Stand in for Quality Engineers/ Quality Manager as required.
Educational, Experience and Skill Requirements
  • University Engineer Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, or Production or Quality Management related qualification.
  • 3 years experience in a Manufacturing and/or Assembly environment.
  • 3 years engineering experience in production, quality or press part evaluation, planning and realisation of technical facilities.
  • Analytical ability.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • PC skills and Microsoft software.
  • Planning and coordinating skills.
  • Cross cultural experience in dealing with all levels of people.
  • Comprehensive understanding of ISO 9001/14001, OSHA 18001 and relevant site standards.
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and Environmental legislation, including regulations.
