Job summary

A leading manufacturer and distributor of printing and packaging products is seeking a Technical Engineer for providing consultation support and performing repairs. Candidates must have Matric/Grade 12, at least 2 years’ experience in repairing digital/RF equipment, as well as SMD soldering skills. Familiarity with operating systems and office software is required. This role calls for a self-motivated team player who can work independently and interact effectively with customers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Job description
ENVIRONMENT:

PROVIDE consultation support for installations while performing electronic & mechanical repairs to products as the next Technical Engineer sought to join the team of a leading manufacturer and distributor of printing, packaging and communication products. You will need Matric/Grade 12, at least 2 years’ experience repairing digital and /or RF equipment to component level and must have SMD component soldering skills. You also need to be familiar with Microsoft Windows operating systems, Barcode Printing Label Software and WLAN. Applicants are required to have their own reliable transport and a valid Driver’s License.

DUTIES:
  • Perform electronic and mechanical repairs to products.
  • Provide consultation support for installations.
  • Undertake installations when required.
  • Member of the Workshop Team to provide post‑sale support to staff, business partners and end‑users.
  • Occasional stressful customer interface.
  • Effective and tactful communication with customers, sales and other departments.
  • Repairs in a timely, neat and accurate manner of all defective hardware sent to the workshop by customers.
  • Configure and test sales demo systems per demo request instructions.
  • Perform occasional service calls at customers locations.
  • Complete all required documentation in accurate and legible fashion.
  • Responsible for good housekeeping and safety practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • Minimum 2 years repairing digital and /or RF equipment to component level.
  • SMD component soldering skills.
  • Personal computer, standard office equipment.
  • Good verbal and written English skills.
  • Strong telephone skills and courteous telephone manner.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Work on Microsoft Office.
  • Application Software.
  • Barcode Printing Label Software.
  • Must have own reliable transport and a valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience in handling customers in all situations.
  • Second language would be advantageous.
