What you'll do

As Site Engineering Manager in Johannesburg, you will shape the facility’s engineering landscape. You will guide multidisciplinary teams through complex projects from design concepts through to successful implementation, fostering collaboration between technical staff and other departments to ensure smooth plant operation. You will focus on continuous improvement, particularly related to sustainability, to drive operational excellence while supporting the professional growth of your team. You will manage budgets effectively and uphold rigorous safety standards to achieve short-term objectives and long-term goals.

  • Oversee the technical and maintenance teams delivering projects, innovation initiatives, infrastructure upgrades, and essential services site-wide.
  • Develop, deploy, and implement plans to maximise asset utilisation and provide guidance on effective maintenance strategies for all equipment and facilities.
  • Lead the implementation of new technologies and process innovations by collaborating with regional networks and technology experts.
  • Prepare and manage capital budgets and expenditure proposals in line with organisational requirements, ensuring financial discipline across all engineering activities.
  • Liaise with category specialists and engineering excellence teams to facilitate technology upgrades and maintain industry-leading standards.
  • Drive execution of approved capital projects from inception to closure using TPM principles for early equipment management.
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental standards by establishing robust procedures for project design, equipment selection, implementation, commissioning, and handover.
  • Continuously improve site infrastructure by addressing energy efficiency, water usage, steam generation, treatment processes, contracts management, and contractor oversight.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to enhance line efficiencies and reduce waste through targeted process improvements.
  • Manage budgets for projects, innovation initiatives, and maintenance; establish preventative maintenance systems based on TPM to ensure asset longevity.
Qualifications
  • A BSc degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) is required.
  • Possession of a Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) is essential.
  • Between five to ten years’ experience in FMCG or manufacturing operations.
  • Proven ability to lead large teams and manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, and internal partners.
  • Experience overseeing end-to-end project delivery including design, budgeting, and execution.
  • Track record of implementing preventative maintenance systems based on TPM principles.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to coach others on technical issues.
