Alfa Laval South Africa is seeking a passionate and eager Service Centre Technician I for the Service Operation Division, based in Johannesburg, serving the Middle East & Africa region.

Job Description

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain equipment or machinery at our service center or customer sites.
  • Use specialized tools and technical knowledge to identify issues, perform repairs, and ensure proper functionality, adhering to safety protocols and standards.
  • Perform service center tasks such as Rotating and Hex repairs.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping standards.
  • Engage in problem resolution and support continuous improvement.
  • Train and mentor service center interns.
  • Complete and submit service reports.
  • Ensure high-quality workmanship and execute repairs according to specifications.
  • Evaluate and confirm repair and service requirements, ensuring quality through inspections and testing.
  • Share knowledge and support team competence development.
  • Participate in 5S, safety, and quality initiatives; escalate issues promptly.
  • Minimize workshop hours through efficient work practices.
  • Develop skills continuously and stay informed about new technologies.

Qualifications & Experience

General Experience:

  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Experience with crane operation, rigging, and forklift handling
  • Experience with rotating equipment such as decanters, high-speed separators, and pumps
  • Knowledge of HSEQ regulations
  • Experience with GPHE/Hex units and chemical safe handling
  • Ability to work at heights

Millwright Experience:

  • Electrical fault-finding skills
  • Experience with ABB VFDs, soft starters, R&B control systems, panel fault-finding, and control system upgrades

Fitter and Turner Experience:

  • MIG and TIG welding
  • Balancing and operating balancing machines
  • Manual lathe operation

Educational and Certification Requirements:

  • Trade or Red Seal qualification in Millwright or Fitting and Turning (minimum 3-5 years qualified)
  • Valid driver’s license (minimum 3-5 years qualified)
