Job description

We are looking for Senior Product Designer to join our team based in Sandton, onsite. This is an initial 12-month contract position. The Senior Product Designer's role is to lead the design of intuitive, user-centred digital products and services within Group Procurement by translating business and user needs into high-quality visual, UI, and interaction design solutions. The role focuses on improving user experience, driving adoption, and ensuring consistency through robust design systems aligned the digital and brand standards.

Key Responsibilities
Product & Experience Design
  • Develop compelling visual artifacts including UI layouts, interface elements, prototypes, high-level storyboards, mock‑ups, and wireframes to clearly communicate UI and UX requirements.
  • Develop and maintain design elements, mock‑ups, specifications, and interaction patterns throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Translate complex procurement processes and business requirements into simple, intuitive user experiences.
  • Understand scope, requirements, and constraints to drive innovative design solutions aligned with business goals and UX metrics.
Design Systems & Standards
  • Act as custodian for visual, UI, and interaction design assets to be adopted and reused within the enterprise design system.
  • Ensure consistency, scalability, and accessibility of designs across platforms and products.
  • Contribute to the evolution and governance of Nedbank's design system and visual language.
Research & Insight
  • Research the latest visual design, UI, and interaction concepts, presentation-layer technologies, digital best practices, and online trends.
  • Conduct best‑practice and competitor research to identify opportunities to enhance product features and user experience.
  • Balance user needs, technical feasibility, and business objectives when proposing design improvements.
User Testing & Validation
  • Formulate testing parameters and success criteria to effectively assess user experience and usability.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers, business analysts, and product owners to validate designs through usability testing and feedback loops.
  • Use data and insights to iterate and continuously improve designs.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and Procurement stakeholders to deliver end-to-end design solutions.
  • Clearly articulate design decisions and rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide design leadership and mentorship to junior designers where required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Design, UX/UI Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
Experience Required
  • 6–8+ years' experience in product design, UX/UI design, or interaction design, preferably within financial services or large enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience designing complex, process-driven systems (e.g. procurement, finance, operations, or enterprise platforms).
  • Demonstrated experience working with and contributing to design systems.
Technical & Professional Skills
  • Strong proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, InVision, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of UX principles, interaction design, accessibility standards, and responsive design.
  • Experience with usability testing methodologies and UX metrics.
  • Strong visual design skills including layout, typography, colour, and branding alignment.
  • Understanding of front-end capabilities and constraints to enable effective collaboration with developers.
