The role supports Project Engineers / Project Managers by translating concepts into accurate, constructible models and fabrication drawings, contributing to efficient design execution and successful project delivery.
Lead the development of complex 3 D models and 2 D detailed mechanical drawings for plant equipment and layouts, civil and structural, and material handling components.
Prepare detailed 2 D drawings and 3 D models for mechanical equipment, piping and plant layouts.
Ensure all designs meet project specifications, industry codes (ASME, ISO, SANS), and client requirements.
Work closely with engineers, other discipline designers, and project teams to integrate designs across disciplines.
Produce and manage design deliverables including GA drawings, BOMs, isometrics, and fabrication drawings.
Perform design checks and participate in peer reviews to maintain high standards of quality.
Deliver design outputs on time in line with project schedules and milestones.
Update and revise designs in response to engineering changes, client feedback, or site constraints.
Apply company and industry drafting / design standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Use CAD software (Auto CAD, Inventor, Civil 3 D) effectively to produce accurate and efficient designs.

Must have a minimum 4 year Mechanical Engineering Degree is essential from either Potchefstroom University, or Pretoria University or Cape Town University or other – Essential (B Tech qualifications do not apply)
Matric certificate
Background in automated engineered systems preferred Graduate or – up to 3 years' experience
Must have experience using 3 D CAD modelling – specifically Solidworks
Prepared to work overtime when required
BOM experience (Bills or Materials) (Beneficial but not essential)
Experience gained in pneumatic and hydraulic (Beneficial but not essential)
Data Pack experience (Beneficial but not essential)
Project Managing (Beneficial but not essential)

The role includes developing detailed designs and preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems in MEP / EPC projects, such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other related mechanical systems.
Strong understanding of engineering standards, including South African (SANS) and relevant international codes such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and ISO.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical design drawings and schematics, with a strong understanding of core mechanical engineering principles and systems.
Operational experience and familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and related mechanical systems.
Experience with design and estimation software (e.g., Auto CAD, Revit MEP, HAP, or equivalent).
Exposure to procurement, supplier evaluation, and cost analysis processes.

Hands-on experience with fabricated steel structures or mining / logistics machinery is a plus.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams).
Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong desire to learn.
