Purpose
The Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Specialist is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and visitors. This role involves ensuring compliance with South African health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a culture of safety across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environment policies, systems, frameworks, and procedures.
- Conduct proactive risk management, regulatory compliance, training of all relevant stakeholders, and foster a zero‑harm culture on and off the premises.
- Engage with internal stakeholders: Facility Management Team, Operations Team, IT Department, Project Management Teams, Finance and Procurement Teams.
- Engage with external stakeholders: External Contractors and Vendors, Landlords and Real Estate Owners, Regulatory Authorities, Auditors, Environmental Groups, Government Agencies, and Management Leadership.
- Manage and oversee the new BankservAfrica Head Office in Rosebank and other real estate assets as required.
- Develop and implement a zero‑harm strategy covering all stakeholders.
- Identify potential hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, or near‑misses and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Develop and deliver OHS training programs for employees and contractors and promote awareness campaigns.
- Develop and test emergency response plans for fire, medical emergencies, and evacuation. Coordinate drills with government authorities.
- Maintain accurate records of safety audits, incident reports, training sessions, and certifications, and prepare regular reports on OHS performance for management.
- Implement SHE technology to monitor performance indicators and support ESG functions.
- Ensure contractor management compliance with SHE regulations, building regulations, and relevant acts.
- Support client satisfaction and manage stakeholder relationships to deliver on SLAs and business unit goals.

Qualifications / Knowledge
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree (3–4 years) in Occupational Health and Safety Management or a related field.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Additional qualifications in OHS and Environmental disciplines (e.g., SAIOSH, NEBOSH, SAATCA) are advantageous.
Experience
- 6+ years of experience in SHE, preferably in a corporate or financial services environment.
- Proven track record of implementing and maintaining safety systems and processes with a good application of the OHS Act, municipal by‑laws, and SANS codes of practice.
- Experience managing SLAs with landlords and third parties.
