Job summary

A compliance consulting firm in Durban is seeking a qualified Compliance Officer to conduct audits and assessments, monitor compliance-related risks, and provide guidance to stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant experience in facilities, strong communication skills, and a diploma in Occupational Certificate or Compliance Officer. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to travel and work after hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Understanding of compliance, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of Sprinkler / Hydrant Systems and Pumps.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Risk and Compliance audits with tenants.
  • Monitor compliance-related risks and develop action plans.
  • Carry out site inspections and regular site visits.
  • Liaise with clients for relevant compliance documentation.
  • Provide guidance on compliance matters to stakeholders.

Job description
  • Risk assessment and monitoring: carry out Risk and Compliance audits with tenants
  • Regularly assess compliance-related risks, monitor for risk and compliance changes, and proactively identify potential issues to develop appropriate action plans.
  • Carry out Site Inspections with the relevant Inspectors (once more settled in the role)
  • Be able to understand reports and schedule works
  • Attend to Rectifications from Compliance Reports
  • Be able to keep and update registers for the entire Fire Fighting System
  • Be able to report on damages and ensure it’s been rectified
  • Carry out regular site visits and keep records
  • Where clients carry out the work themselves, incumbent will be required to liaise with the client for the relevant documentation
  • Auditing and testing: Conduct audits and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Training and education: Coordinate/ deliver training programs to educate others on their compliance obligations
  • Advisory / guidance: Provide guidance and advice to relevant stakeholders on compliance matters and help resolve issues related to compliance.
Knowledge and requirements
  • Grade 12 with relevant diploma in Occupational certificate or compliance officer
  • A strong understanding of governance and compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures is essential

Strong understanding of compliance, regulations, and relevant industry standards

  • Must have a Facilities background / relevant experience (at least 5 years in a similar role)
  • Must have knowledge on Sprinkler / Hydrant Systems and Pumps
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Attention to detail for conducting audits, addressing compliance gaps and compiling documents accurately.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in collaboration with various stakeholders
  • Technical Skills: Strong report writing skills and computer literacy, especially with MS Office packages
