Duties & Responsibilities
A Registered Construction Safety Officer (SACPCMP) is responsible for ensuring that all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards are implemented, monitored, and continuously improved on construction sites.
This role focuses on creating a safe working environment, preventing incidents, and ensuring full legal compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), Construction Regulations, and SACPCMP requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain site‑specific health and safety plans.
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and hazard identification.
- Ensure compliance with OHS Act, Construction Regulations, and company safety policies.
- Lead toolbox talks, inductions, and safety training for all site personnel.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; compile detailed reports with corrective actions.
- Maintain all safety documentation, audits, registers, and legal files.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and management on HSE matters.
- Monitor contractor compliance and enforce corrective measures where necessary.
- Promote safety awareness and a proactive safety culture on site.
- Prepare safety performance reports for management and stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
- Registered with SACPCMP as a Safety Officer (Compulsory).
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- National Diploma or relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.
- SAMTRAC / NEBOSH or equivalent safety certification advantageous.
- Minimum 2–5 years construction site HSE experience.
- Strong knowledge of OHS Act, Construction Regulations, and relevant SANS standards.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and enforce compliance confidently.
