About the Role

As Programme Coordinator: Accounting, you will provide academic and professional leadership for Accounting and Business/Finance programmes within higher education. This role combines subject matter expertise with curriculum design, teaching, research, and quality assurance to ensure programmes meet national higher education requirements (CHE, SAQA, DHET) and align with professional standards (SAICA, ACCA, CIMA).

You will play a pivotal role in shaping student outcomes, ensuring graduates are academically strong, industry-ready, and equipped with both technical and professional competencies to thrive in their careers.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide academic leadership and maintain programme integrity, quality, and relevance.
  • Lead curriculum design, programme reviews, and assessment development in line with CHE, SAQA, and DHET requirements.
  • Oversee quality assurance, programme accreditation, and compliance processes.
  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and assessments for Accounting modules.
  • Mentor lecturers and build faculty capacity in teaching, assessment, and student support.
  • Integrate employability skills, digital tools, and data analytics into curricula.
  • Monitor student performance, progression, and at-risk interventions.
  • Guide student leadership initiatives, academic societies, and professional engagement.
  • Promote applied research in Accounting, Auditing, and Finance.
  • Manage programme budgets and chair academic/quality committees.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (minimum); Honours/Master’s in Accounting, Auditing, or Finance preferred.
  • 8+ years’ higher education experience, including at least 5 years as an Accounting lecturer.
  • 3+ years’ experience in curriculum design, assessment, and moderation.
  • Strong knowledge of South African higher education regulations (CHE, SAQA, DHET).
  • Familiarity with professional accounting body requirements (SAICA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Proven record in programme accreditation, quality assurance, and academic leadership.
  • Skilled in online/distance education and learning management systems.
  • Excellent writing, reporting, and communication skills.
  • High ethical standards, professionalism, and ability to work within deadlines.
