Job description

Mining & Resources Architects are responsible for designing end‑to‑end, value‑chain‑aligned solutions that support the unique operational, safety, and regulatory requirements of the mining and natural resources sector. This includes solutions covering exploration, mine planning, extraction, processing, logistics, marketing & trading, HSE, and asset lifecycle management.
The role balances business objectives with technical feasibility, ensuring architectures are scalable, safe, cost‑effective, and aligned with mining industry standards and operational constraints.

Architects must be able to:
  • Guide Business and Solution Architects toward integrated, mining‑specific architecture patterns across Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT).
  • Assess the impact of architectural decisions on safety, cost, complexity, production continuity, environmental compliance, and operational risk.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles, mining regulations, and international industry standards (e.g., ISO 55000, ISA‑95, PMBOK for mining projects).
Key Responsibilities
  • Design holistic mining solutions covering the full resources value chain, including Exploration, Mine Planning, Fleet & Asset Management, Processing/Metallurgy, Supply Chain & Logistics, Trading, and Finance.
  • Integrate OT, IT, and Cloud systems, including ERP (SAP S/4HANA), MES/MOM, SCADA, Fleet Telematics, and geospatial systems into a unified, secure architecture.
  • Enable real‑time operations through event‑driven architecture, edge computing, IoT sensor integration, and digital twins.
  • Drive Safety & Sustainability outcomes through solutions that support HSE, environmental monitoring, tailings management, and compliance reporting.
  • Provide architectural governance and lead teams of 2–10 junior architects, with occasional oversight of cross‑functional delivery teams (developers, OT engineers, testers) within defined budget constraints.
  • Promote innovation in mining, incorporating AI/ML for predictive maintenance, ore body modelling, processing optimization, and autonomous operations.
Critical Skills
  • 5+ years designing large-scale enterprise or operations‑focused solutions across mining or asset‑intensive industries.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting solutions across OT/IT layers, including SCADA, MES, ERP, GIS, IoT, and cloud platforms.
  • Cloud certification (Azure, AWS, or equivalent) or equivalent experience designing cloud‑native and hybrid architectures for industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity for industrial control systems (ICS), network segmentation, and Zero Trust principles in mining environments.
  • Experience producing architecture documentation and securing approvals from design authorities or governance bodies.
  • Ability to engage senior mining stakeholders (operations, engineering, safety, finance) and translate operational requirements into robust technical solutions.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in Mining, Resources, Metals, Minerals, Oil & Gas, or other heavy/asset‑intensive sectors.
  • Familiarity with mining value chain systems such as:
    • ERP: SAP S/4HANA for Mining, Oracle
    • OT/Engineering: SCADA, MES/MOM, Fleet Management Systems (FMS), Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS), GIS
    • Planning: Mine planning & geology platforms (Datamine, Deswik, Vulcan)
  • Knowledge of real‑time data systems, edge IoT, telemetry, mobility, and autonomous operations.
  • Enterprise Architecture certifications (TOGAF, Zachman) beneficial.
  • Exposure to Digital Twin, AI/ML, advanced analytics, and sustainability solutions (GHG tracking, energy optimization).
