Job Overview

As a focused strategic business area within Komatsu, the global underground hard rock business is looking for a leadership partner to join our growth journey in South Africa.

Join Komatsu's Hard Rock team as our Managing Director, Hard Rock - South Africa, where you'll be responsible for directing, controlling, and planning all long-term and short-term strategic growth across South Africa to align with the global underground hard rock long-term strategic plan.

You will lead and develop a large sales and service organization with the aim of being our customers' preferred choice and market leader in the underground hard rock mining industry.

You will also be accountable for the successful execution of engineering product development, fulfillment and manufacturing for South Africa market specific OE and aftermarket products.

As a member of the Komatsu underground hard rock mining global leadership team, with full P&L responsibility, you will take an active part in setting the strategic direction, executing the strategy and partnering with broader Komatsu to leverage overall company benefits and efficiencies.

Key Job Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance : Defining and driving the vision, mission, and long-term business plans in alignment with hard rock global business strategic goals.

This involves ensuring compliance with local laws and corporate governance and reporting to senior leadership on performance.

Product & Market Growth : Overseeing brand positioning, expanding product portfolios through new product development focused with efficiency, cost control, technology adoption and market adoption potential.

Sales & Marketing Oversight : Setting and monitoring sales targets, guiding marketing strategies, and ensuring competitive product placement and pricing in the South African market.

Identifying new market opportunities within South Africa and potentially across the broader African continent.

This includes developing dealer networks as required.

Operations & Supply Chain Management : Overseeing the manufacturing and supply chain for locally manufactured hard rock OE products and parts aftermarket products across South Africa.

Focus on product quality, efficiency, cost control, and ensuring parts availability and aftersales service excellence.

Customer Support : Overseeing the aftermarket parts and customer field service support to ensure the business continuously improves and exceeds customer service expectations across South Africa.

Initiate market relevant aftermarket programs to increase customer support and aftermarket growth opportunity.

Financial Management : Full P&L accountability for financial results of hard rock South Africa business including cash flow, capital allocation, and balance sheet.

This involves sales forecasting, budgeting, financial forecasting, risk management, cost containment and inventory control.

Human Capital & Leadership : Building and leading a high-performing management team, driving succession planning, and fostering a positive, performance-driven company culture while ensuring strong employee engagement and compliance with South African labor laws and Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) targets.

Safety : Champion a zero harm safety culture and compliance with mining industry, I.S.O. product engineering, and manufacturing regulations.

Legal Compliance : Ensure legislative and company legal compliance across the business through day-to-day sales, support and operations execution and as you lead initiatives in technology and organizational change.

Qualifications / Requirements

Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Mining, MBA preferred.

15+ years in sales and / or aftermarket management in mining industry with strategic customer partnerships.

Strong knowledge or experience in underground hard rock mining product application and industry methods.

Judgment and intuition acquired through experience in working with executive mining professionals and securing large capital sales.

Demonstrated experience developing business growth strategies within OEM business to include OE and aftermarket sales and customer support strategy development and execution plans.

Strong leadership and coaching abilities to drive resource development in assigned territory and ensure business growth is maintained through strategic talent management of territory resources.

Required to have excellent interpersonal, influence, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

Must be innovative, adaptable and flexible to work with various types of customers, dealers.

Strong business acumen and comprehension of business financial accounting is essential.

Ability to travel across Africa 50% or more with occasional global travel requiring valid passport and driver's license.

Speak, read and write English fluently.
