Job description

Location : Industria Johannesburg

The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the maintenance activities of all plant machinery, equipment, and facilities within the packaging manufacturing plant. The incumbent must ensure optimal machine uptime, minimize breakdowns, and support continuous improvement in plant performance and safety.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Manage and lead the maintenance team, including artisans and assistants, to ensure the efficient operation of all plant equipment.
  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and technical faults on packaging machinery
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records, including job cards, breakdown reports, and machine history.
  • Coordinate with production and quality teams to prioritize maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Oversee the procurement and inventory of critical spares and tools.
  • Implement cost-effective maintenance practices without compromising on safety or performance.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions on recurring equipment failures.
  • Manage contractor relationships and oversee outsourced maintenance services where applicable.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff and artisans.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Trade Qualification : Qualified Electrician, Fitter, or Mechanician (Red Seal or equivalent).
  • In-depth knowledge of packaging machinery and equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
