ROLE SUMMARY:

We’re seeking a Locum College English Home Language Teacher to ensure seamless continuity of learning. You will deliver engaging, rigorous English lessons, keep assessment and reporting on track, and partner closely with colleagues and parents so students experience stability and progress throughout the cover period. You’ll provide afternoon academic support and contribute to co-curricular activities as needed, aligning to Reddam House Durbanville’s standards and the Inspired ethos.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan and present engaging English lessons that develop reading, writing, speaking and analysis.
  • Establish a nurturing, orderly classroom that promotes engaged learning.
  • Set, mark and moderate assessments/exams; write clear report comments.
  • Provide academic support two afternoons per week; assist with two afternoons of co-curriculars as required.
  • Use assessment to inform next steps; keep accurate records and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with parents and colleagues.
  • Share high-quality learning resources and collaborate on standardisation.
  • Uphold school expectations and attend key occasions as directed.
  • Ensure precise handover notes for continuity at the start and end of the locum.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • SACE registration (essential) and recognised teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed/PGCE).
  • University degree in English/Language/Literature (or closely related field).
  • Minimum 3 years’ recent experience teaching within the College/High School phase.
  • Proven experience teaching English HL to Grade 12 (IEB experience advantageous).
  • Able to set clear expectations and stretching goals for diverse learners.
  • Adaptable teaching style, responsive to feedback and student need.
  • Depth of subject knowledge and ability to judge learning effectiveness.
  • Excellent preparation and planning; disciplined with deadlines and reporting.
  • Assessment-led practice with feedback that lifts performance.
  • Genuine care for the highest standards of student welfare and appropriate right to work in South Africa.
