A large consulting company with offices across South Africa is looking for a Lead Engineer: Bridges to join their offices in Johannesburg. This is a fantastic growth opportunity for the right candidate.
Minimum requirements :
- BSc / BTech Civil engineering with Professional registration as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech. Master’s degree in Civil Engineering would be advantageous.
- COTO Certified Bridge inspector.
- At least 10 years’ experience in the consulting engineering industry.
- Post Graduate experience of at least 5-10 years in the design of large Bridges, Freeway interchanges and related transportation structures.
- Has independently designed bridges and assumed a bridge engineer’s role.
- Familiar with Bridge Design Standards of SANRAL and Local Government Departments.
- Sound knowledge of both Structural Steel and Reinforced Concrete Bridge Design.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, MS Projects, AutoCAD, CADS RC, Revit, Prokon, Midas, and other relevant design software.
- Extensive experience with NEC, FIDIC, JBCC, and GCC contracts is advantageous.
- Administrative and human resource management experience.
- Experience in business development activities within the industry.
- Willingness and ability to travel locally and across the continent for extended periods as required.
Your responsibilities will include :
- Providing support and involvement in marketing, business development, and management of the Bridges and Transportation Structures area for the business unit, in support of the Executive Manager.
- Participating in professional organizations for marketing, industry recognition, and networking.
- Conducting research, compiling relevant data, evaluating technical and financial aspects, and preparing cost estimates and budget quotations for structural engineering proposals.
- Managing Engineers, Technologists, Technicians, and site staff throughout the planning, design, tender, implementation, and close-out stages of various projects.
- Carrying out research and feasibility studies.
- Leading specific areas within the Bridges and Transportation Structures business unit.
- Overseeing all technical aspects, including investigation, design, field assessments, tender documentation, and cost estimates.
- Preparing technical reports and design reports.
- Staying updated with technological developments and research in the field.
- Coordinating and supervising the production of technical drawings, designs, and reports by supporting staff.
- Engaging with clients through meetings and reporting.
- Regularly liaising and reporting to the Executive Manager: Structures.
- Managing the technical outputs and performance of direct reports.
- Supervising and mentoring graduate engineers, technologists, and technicians.
- Ensuring compliance with ISO9001:2015, Business Management System, and the Project Management Online Guide.
- Preparing proposals, expressions of interest, panel applications, tenders, and generating work for the company.
- Procurement and management of specialist sub-service providers.
- Managing projects, monitoring performance, and ensuring profitability.
- Overseeing construction monitoring and site work, as required.
- Preparing tender documentation and managing contractor procurement.
- Contract administration as needed.
