Job description
Overview

The Quantity Surveyor role is responsible to determine and manage project and programme costs including producing the best estimates for the projects, develop bills of quantities, contribute to the development of contract documents, cost control, valuing deliverables, analysis of project submissions and reporting as well as monitoring and control of the construction process.

Responsible for the time‑ous submission and negotiation of programme final accounts to the client.

Project Scope and Costing

Provide project costing for proposed projects.

Provide support for condition assessment of new project infrastructure or improvement of project to be delivered.

Develop and submit project estimates (Elemental and other), Bills of Quantities, Order of Magnitude, etc.

Establish a costing analysis and deliver the cost schedule/plan.

Report on the performance of Projects.

Project Cost Planning

Prepare cost analysis based on the architectural drawings, engineering estimates, materials required, and labour involved.

Prepare cost plans to enable design teams to produce practical designs for construction projects, which involve liaising with architects, engineers and SMMEs.

Tender and Contract Management

Assist in preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.

Where required, negotiate with the contractors and all relevant stakeholders.

Monitor and Reporting

Monitor and keep track of project progress and are responsible for the measurement and valuation of variations in the work during the contract, for agreement of interim payments and the final account.

Conduct monthly valuations of work in progress, including forecasting of final costs and sales for next period.

Provide support in certification of SMME monthly valuations and final accounts.

Prepare formal reports in accordance with project timetable.

Submit all relevant information to the Senior Quantity Surveyor for review at the specified intervals set.

Responsible for Own Career Development

Upskill continuously on organizational and market-related knowledge, NHFC internal processes and procedures and current quantity surveying and programme.

Execute and deliver on personal development plans.

Attend job related training as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications: B.Sc (QS) university degree, or B-Tech degree in Quantity Surveying. Professional Registration with built industry governing bodies is an advantage.

Experience: At least 5 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor; Experience working in a construction site. Added advantage: Experience in site and quality management in the Human.
