IT Systems Administrator job vacancy in Bedfordview.
The role is critical to ensuring secure access control, business continuity, data protection, and operational stability across the organization.
The Systems Administrator will work closely with People Experience (HR), Security, and Management to support employee lifecycle processes, infrastructure health, and end-user support.
Duties and Responsibilities
- User Lifecycle Management (Joiners, Movers, Leavers)
- Execute employee terminations and suspensions in coordination with People Experience.
- Disable and manage user accounts in Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
- Forward and manage mailboxes for terminated or suspended users.
- Create and manage distribution lists using PowerShell where required.
- Perform mailbox backups and exports using Microsoft Purview / eDiscovery.
- Remove users from internal systems and security platforms (e.g. monitoring and endpoint protection tools).
- Ensure compliance with access control and data retention policies.
- Security & Access Control
- Ensure immediate removal or restriction of access during terminations or suspensions.
- Maintain principle of least privilege across systems.
- Manage and clean up accounts in monitoring and security tools.
- Support internal investigations by preserving and securing user data when required.
- Backup Management & Data Protection
- Monitor and verify scheduled backups using backup platforms (e.g. Redstor).
- Investigate and resolve backup failures or errors.
- Manage backup retention for inactive users in line with company policy.
- Ensure backups for executives and critical users are preserved.
- Perform quarterly backup integrity testing, including restore tests to secondary/DR environments.
- Server & Infrastructure Management
- Monitor uptime and performance of physical and virtual servers.
- Manage and monitor virtual machines, storage, CPU, and memory utilization.
- Perform routine server health checks and proactive maintenance.
- Apply operating system and application updates and patches.
- Support disaster recovery and replication environments.
- Network Management
- Monitor and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues.
- Optimize network configurations to ensure stability, security, and performance.
- Patch & Update Management
- Plan, test, and deploy firmware and software patches.
- Ensure security updates are applied consistently and safely.
- Maintain patching schedules and documentation.
- Surveillance & Physical Security Support
- Review camera footage when requested for late arrivals, incidents, or investigations.
- Monitor for suspicious activity or security breaches.
- Ensure camera systems are operational and maintained.
- Advanced User Support
- Provide advanced technical support for hardware, software, and system issues.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Escalate complex issues to vendors or specialist teams when required.
- Perform regular access audits to ensure compliance.
Requirements
- Strong experience with Windows Server and Active Directory
- Proven experience administering Microsoft 365 / Office 365
- PowerShell scripting for user and mailbox management
- Backup solutions experience (e.g. Redstor or similar)
- Virtualization platforms (Hyper-V, VMware, or equivalent)
- Network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, switches)
- Server monitoring and troubleshooting
- Patch and update management
- Strong understanding of security best practices
- Advantageous
- Experience with endpoint protection tools (e.g. SentinelOne)
- Experience with remote monitoring tools (e.g. N-Central or similar)
- Knowledge of Cloud system environments (Azure / Private Cloud Hosting)
- Microsoft Purview / eDiscovery experience
- Disaster recovery and replication environments
- CCTV or physical security system exposure
