  • Prepare power of Attorney Forms for review and lodgement.
  • Manage trademark renewal and recordal.

Overview

The IP Specialist at Dennemeyer will manage clients' intellectual property portfolios, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of patents, trademarks, designs, and utility models. Success in this role is demonstrated through precise docketing, diligent monitoring of deadlines, and high client satisfaction. This position is integral to maintaining Dennemeyer reputation for excellence in IP management on a global scale.

Dennemeyer Africa (Pty) Ltd is seeking an Intellectual Property Assistant who is keen to work in a dynamic team. Whilst the post is primarily a trademarks assistant post the incumbent will also be required to provide assistance within the patents practice. The incumbent must have a thirst for knowledge and be keen to learn and grow across both practice functionalities. The tasks assigned to the role will include predominantly the following but not be limited necessarily to the same given business needs of the business from time to time.

Your Responsibilities
  • Opening files on Diams iQ
  • Performing data checks
  • Taking instructions from the attorneys and attending to the same
  • Verifying instructions
  • Preparing power of Attorney Forms and Official Forms for review, signature and lodgement before Intellectual Property Offices (IPOs)
  • Preparing quotes
  • Preparing and sending invoices
  • Bank reconciliation of PTO and official fees account
  • Liaising with agents
  • Managing diaries
  • Trademark renewal and recordal management in all aspects with oversight from the responsible attorney
  • Preparing new trade mark applications
  • Jointly assisting with trademark filings, prosecution and litigation
  • Liaising, building and maintaining relationships with the IPOs on all current matters
  • Providing assistance for patent annuity matters
  • Providing backup for all aspects of the patent practice
  • Preparing responses to trade mark official actions
  • General office administration
Your Profile
  • Educational background in the IP area (e.g., apprenticeship as Paralegal, Patent Attorney Assistant) or equivalent experience
  • Experience in the field of IP would be advantageous including any IP related course/ diploma or professional/ technical diploma or qualification
  • Excellent computer literacy, including MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel
  • Experience with patent management software
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and track deadlines
  • Good soft skills, including good communication and attention to details
  • A proactive attitude
  • Service oriented towards our clients and colleagues
  • The ability to follow a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and to suggest improvements and participate in the streamlining of the operational processes
  • Fluent command of English, any additional language is considered as an asset
