Job summary

A purpose-driven organisation is seeking a Head of Finance to join their Johannesburg-based team. You will lead the finance function, covering strategy, operations, and compliance. The ideal candidate has a CA (SA) qualification and at least 3 years of experience in financial management. This role offers a competitive salary package ranging from R850,000 to R1,050,000 CTC per year, based on experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3+ years in a financial management role.
  • Experience in lean finance teams and/or social impact, start-up, or non-profit environments preferred.
  • Strong strategic planning, analytical, and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to support organisational growth.
  • Manage donor, investor, and board financial reporting.
  • Oversee statutory compliance (Companies Act, VAT, Labour Law, Income Tax) and governance requirements.
  • Prepare annual financial statements, liaise with auditors, and resolve audit queries.
  • Maintain effective financial systems, processes, and controls to ensure transparency and efficiency.
  • Monitor cash flow and project finances, identifying variances and taking corrective action where needed.

As the Head of Finance, you will lead the organisation's full finance function - covering strategy, operations, governance, and compliance - while working closely with the leadership team, board, donors, and investors to ensure financial sustainability and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to support organisational growth.
  • Manage donor, investor, and board financial reporting.
  • Oversee statutory compliance (Companies Act, VAT, Labour Law, Income Tax) and governance requirements.
  • Prepare annual financial statements, liaise with auditors, and resolve audit queries.
  • Maintain effective financial systems, processes, and controls to ensure transparency and efficiency.
  • Monitor cash flow and project finances, identifying variances and taking corrective action where needed.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • CA (SA), AGA (SA) or CGMA qualification is required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years in a financial management role.
  • Experience in lean finance teams and/or social impact, start-up, or non-profit environments preferred.
  • Proficiency in financial systems such as SAGE or Xero, and advanced MS Office skills.
  • Strong strategic planning, analytical, and organisational skills.

Salary:

  • R850,000 - R1,050,000 CTC / year, depending on experience.
