Role Description

This is a full-time in office position for a Geotechnical Engineer at Sound Mining's offices based in Johannesburg. The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for providing geotechnical design criteria required for open pit, underground, tunnelling and related projects. We require someone familiar with international design guidelines and technical specifications, soil and rock mechanics, ground investigation studies, interpretation and modelling of in-situ testing and laboratory results, numerical and empirical modelling, tunnel, TMB design, support (lining), portal design and stability analysis.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology or related fields
  • Member of professional associations i.e., SACNASP, ECSA, GSSA and have tickets of competency
  • Experience in geotechnical assessments and stability analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software packages (3D)
