Job description
Introduction

A cheese producer is looking for a Food Safety Officer to join their team. Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Food Safety System (HACCP SANS 10330). Align systems with legal, regulatory and customer requirements and oversee documentation procedures and change control. Lead internal audits, GMP inspections and customer or third-party audits. Drive corrective and preventative actions and ensure readiness for certification (e.g. Halal, Kosher, customer-specific requirements). Maintain all necessary records, approvals and updates. Manage, support and develop the Quality Assurance Team. Identify training needs, coordinate competency-based training and ensure a strong quality and food safety culture across the manufacturing operation. Investigate non-conformances and customer complaints, oversee root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Manage the release of finished goods including verification of COAs/COCs and handling of concessions and product holds. Compile and present regular food safety and quality reports including trend analyses and management review inputs. Ensure effective internal communication of food safety risks and external communication with service providers and clients. Participate in traceability exercises, recalls and risk mitigation processes. Manage the procurement and quality of cheese making ingredients and dairy product packaging as well as maintaining accurate and updated costing records.
Key Requirements
  • Qualification in Food Technology or a related field with at least 5 years experience in Quality Assurance, preferably in the dairy industry.
  • At least 2 years experience in a supervisory role.
  • Food Safety Management System certification required.
  • Experience in implementing, managing and auditing (IBL ZA or HACCP) food and quality systems essential.
  • Driver's licence and own reliable transport required.
Additional Requirements

Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and very good problem-solving skills. Exceptionally organised with the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively in a dynamic environment. Able to work effectively in a team and manage other staff. Ability to taste a variety of food and beverages. Computer literate.
