Responsibilities

Job Overview: The senior artisan is responsible for ensuring that the full mechanical/electrical maintenance of the utilities plant/equipment and repair agenda is executed within PepsiCo engineering standards. That new artisans are fully integrated into the Engineering structure/team and ways of working. Ensure seamless interaction between critical stakeholders in the manufacturing environment (New). Ensure proper guidance, training, competency assessments and sign offs are done for new apprentices. Continuous improvement initiatives requiring mechanical skills and competence are delivered.

Equipment Maintenance
  • Responsible for monitoring, diagnostics repair and maintenance of all Factory utility systems in accordance with manufacturer and company standards, including but not limited to:
  • Steam Generation equipment – boilers, pumps, condensate system and pressure reducing valves
  • Compressed Air equipment – Air compressors, Evaporative condensers
  • Effluent handling system – sump pumps, rotary screens, centrifuges
  • HVAC and Electrical reticulation – standby generators
  • Plant feed water supply, storage and distribution system
  • Execute daily logging (meter reading), inspections and preventive maintenance tasks (e.g. filter replacements, oil changes, lubrication, gasket replacement)
  • Assists in the development of maintenance procedures, preventive, routine and predictive work instructions, training and troubleshooting manuals, protocols and corrective/preventive actions
  • Complete performance testing on utilities equipment – emissions tests, infrared scanning, usage rates etc. to drive efficiency and Sustainability agenda
  • Provides troubleshooting and demand maintenance work on a variety of equipment and systems along with other equipment related to production and facility operations
  • Uses test instruments (Infrared scanners, Ultrasonic equipment, Vibration analyser, and Alignment tools) to troubleshoot and test transformers, compressors, pumps, switchgear and other utilities equipment
  • Diagnoses and performs the most complex maintenance and repairs on a variety of Utilities equipment (Boilers, Compressors, Dryers, Evaporative condensers, Chillers)
  • Develop shift artisans (mechanical/electrical) skills on the various install Utilities base technology through hands-on/on the job mentoring
  • Participate in the engineering continuous improvement initiatives to support equipment reliability, GMP/Food Safety/IPS/GEHSMS and PEMM agenda
  • Participate in problem solving for Utilities problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers
  • Effectively manage contractors (outsourced work) and ensure compliance to site rules
  • Perform shift and stand-by duties for Services & Utilities Department. (Water, Effluent, Refrigeration, Steam & Compressors, Air Supplies)
  • Provides troubleshooting and demand maintenance work on a variety of equipment and systems along with other equipment related to production and facility operations
  • Collaborates with Fitter and Fitter & Turner to troubleshoot analog/digital hardware problems on various systems
  • Conducts tests to troubleshoot and test gearboxes, pumps, drives, valves, hydraulics, pneumatics and other mechanical devices for defects
  • Reviews and updates equipment maintenance schedule requests and specification changes through Reliability engineer
  • Diagnoses and corrects mechanical systems and equipment malfunctions; test, adjust, sequence, synchronize and align such systems and equipment as hydraulic, pneumatic actuators, reducing valves, geared motors/pumps, generators and valves
  • Spares review – complete new spares requests in line with Special purchase requests raised during Planned Maintenance and Shutdown work
  • Interface with Control System Specialist and Mechanical Specialist for equipment specification and product/process flow optimisation
Reporting and Document Control
  • Generate reports on equipment failures, modification requests, and specification changes
  • Document control – updates and reviews equipment manuals and standards
  • Reports weekly/monthly on work done, time spent on each assignment, spares used, resources employed, etc.
  • Continuous reference to equipment drawings, engineering standards and GMPs in the performance and closing out of jobs done
Continuous Improvement
  • Completes equipment modifications requests including Specifications and drawing proposals.
  • Complete continuous improvement initiatives to support equipment reliability, IPS and food safety agenda with support from the Site Engineer.
  • Tracks and documents CI improvement initiatives executed and process improvement challenges when they arise
  • Ensures that scheduled maintenance in terms of Engineering plans is conducted as prescribed following defined protocols and compliance to GMPs
  • Ensures that machined spares are available as and when required and shall schedule time to execute this one
  • Completes job cards and parts requisition documents timeously to improve on meantime to repair thus ensuring high plant availability
Qualifications
  • Qualified/Trade Tested Electrician
  • N6 Mechanical Engineering Qualification
  • Minimum 5 years’ maintenance experience in the FMCG environment
  • Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office and maintenance software (CMMS Systems - SAP/On Key/JD Edwards etc.)
