Financial Analyst – Role Overview

As a Financial Analyst you will deliver high‑quality financial reporting, performance analysis and strategic insights across the Department of Planning, Housing & Infrastructure (DPHI). The role sits within the Budget Strategy & Performance team of Corporate Services Finance and is responsible for producing timely, accurate and insightful financial management information to support decision‑making by senior finance and non‑finance executives.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate responses to financial data requests from Senior Executives and NSW Treasury.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate and timely financial reports, briefs and analysis that support strategic business management.
  • Provide expert financial advice to Executives and Senior Managers across DPHI, identifying performance trends and opportunities to guide business improvement.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of DPHI’s annual budget processes and production of associated reports, analysis and presentations.
  • Deliver professional support to senior management in the development of briefings, including budget estimates and Cabinet Minutes with financial impacts and funding proposals.
  • Collaborate with financial reporting and business‑partnering teams to enhance financial systems, reporting processes and capability.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong understanding of government functions, financial policies and sector standards.
  • Experience providing high‑quality financial advice and technical support to senior managers.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with experience consulting across diverse teams and government agencies.
  • Advanced skills in analysing financial data, preparing reports and presenting insights.
  • A proactive and accountable approach to work with a commitment to ethical standards and public sector values.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex ideas clearly and tailor messages for executive audiences.
  • Customer‑focused approach with a knack for solving problems and improving outcomes.
  • Full membership of CPA Australia or CAANZ.
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or a similar discipline.
