Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Cape Town is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare cost estimates and tender documents for mechanical and welding projects. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of estimating experience in the engineering sector, with a strong understanding of materials and processes. An NQF 6 qualification in Engineering or Quantity Surveying is required. This role offers a chance to contribute to project success and improve estimating processes.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, BOQs, and tender documents for mechanical, welding, and fabrication projects.
• Analyse drawings, specifications, and project requirements to determine material, labour, and time needs.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and evaluate cost competitiveness.
• Work closely with project managers and engineers to ensure estimates align with technical and operational requirements.
• Track project costs, identify variances, and support cost‑control measures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and systems.

Minimum Requirements

• 35 years estimating experience within welding, mechanical, and fabrication environments.
• Strong understanding of materials, processes, and production workflows in the engineering sector.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings.

Qualifications

• NQF 6 in Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
• SACQSP registration advantageous.
