Job description
Purpose

To provide technical process support to the production team, design, develop and implement systems and processes for continuous improvement in production process while maintaining acceptable safety and quality levels.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to the manufacturing plant to ensure production processes operate at the highest levels of productivity and quality.
  • Provide overall site with process engineering and technical support.
  • Mine site machine data to create correlations with operational effectiveness.
  • Conduct research, develop and design improved processes for manufacturing and systems needed to support daily plant operations.
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive quality control programme that minimises waste and meets customer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot problems associated with manufacturing processes, provide professional engineering knowledge and expertise for the solutions to daily plant operating problems.
  • Develop and implement performance metrics to monitor manufacturing processes, conduct statistical analysis and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Continuously evaluate processes and workflows to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovative solutions, drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate processes and equipment to ensure compliance with Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) systems and other regulations.
  • Liaise with the service providers to optimise material usage i.e. chemical consumption and maintain material usage costs within budget.
  • Work in conjunction with the plant managers, PEM (Production Equipment Maintenance) and Quality teams to design, test and implement new processes, systems or manufacturing technology.
  • Develop routines and best practices and assist in the development of standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Manage trial processes to the necessary standards, lead and guide Management of Change (MOC) for manufacturing and engineering processes.
Qualifications
  • BSc / B Eng. in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • MSc in Chemical Engineering (added advantage).
  • 5 - 8 years' experience in process engineering role, preferably within the Printing or Manufacturing industry, coupled with process design and SHEQ systems management experience.

Knowledge and Skills: World Class Manufacturing / Fundamentals of Theory of Constraints (TOC) and/or LEAN methodology / Continuous improvement principles and solutions; Process monitoring and Control (e.g. Statistical Process Control (SPC, Pareto)); Problem Solving and Analysis (Ishikawa, RCA, PFMEA, Capability study); Process Automation Principles; Process simulation / modelling; Principle of Data Mining and Analytics; Production modelling software packages; ISO Project Management.
