Job description

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer (Pr Eng or Pr Tech) with strong power systems experience to join their engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in electrical design, grid integration, system studies, and compliance with relevant standards. You will be involved in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across transmission, distribution, industrial, and/or renewable energy projects.

Duties

• Perform power system modelling, load flow studies, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination and arc-flash studies.
• Design and review MV/LV electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, protection schemes, and cabling layouts.
• Conduct grid connection studies and liaise with utilities for approvals.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, design reports, BOQs, and tender documentation.
• Provide engineering support during construction, testing, commissioning, and project close-out.
• Ensure compliance with NRS, SANS, IEC, Eskom and relevant utility standards.
• Lead or support project management, client engagement, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
• Mentor Junior Engineers and assist with internal technical development.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng/BSc Electrical Engineering (Pr Eng) or BTech Electrical Engineering (Pr Tech Eng) – ECSA registered (or in advanced process of registration).
• 3–8+ years’ experience in power systems engineering.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, and SKM).
• Strong understanding of grid codes, utility standards, and electrical design principles.
• Experience in transmission, distribution, industrial, or renewable energy projects.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
