Job Description

A unique opportunity has become available to pioneer the build of Africa’s future retirement savings proposition. The Old Mutual Corporate (OMC) team is seeking a talented and suitably qualified senior professional to identify and work on specific strategic initiatives to enhance the combined Old Mutual Corporate value proposition for clients. In this new role, the successful incumbent will own the end-to-end customer outcome of South Africa’s largest retirement propositions. You will lead and manage the various cross‑functional agile and enablement teams responsible for the design, development, and ongoing marketing and management of the proposition.

The Customer Proposition Executive will be responsible for the end‑to‑end commercial success of the proposition as defined by the vision and strategy by delivering on the needs of the customer. The role requires delivering through strategic partnerships (internal and external to OMC) to deliver the most consistent (reliable) outcomes for customers in the industry. Product management is vital to delivering innovations and driving business growth. Setting a product vision and strategy that is differentiated and delivers unique value based on customer demands.

The successful incumbent is responsible for providing cross‑functional leadership that focuses on integrating savings, risk and income solutions that give members immediate peace of mind that their future financial needs are provided for and delivers the required outcomes in the future.

Key Result Areas
  • Lead the development and implementation of new savings and income propositions that includes the development of new propositions as well as enhancements and/or integration of existing ones.
  • Developing and aligning the longer‑term vision and strategy of OMC, especially considering the changing regulatory landscape.
  • Understanding changing customer needs and market dynamics and driving the design and development of innovative and appropriate solutions to capitalize on these changes.
  • Communicating and aligning cross‑functionally when inter‑team dependencies and trade‑offs are required to be solved.
  • Communicating risks effectively to stakeholders.
  • Making decisions that will guide the team’s delivery in line with the product roadmap. Manage any prioritisation issues by engaging all stakeholders and aligning with the product roadmap.
  • Understanding the market, product, business, and any constraints involved.
  • Creating and communicating a clear vision and focusing the efforts of stakeholders to delivering the best possible customer value.
  • Being accountable and facilitating the entire process of product development from research, product strategy development, concept proposition, feasibility and prototype testing, business, specification, and build.
  • Collaborating with the business to facilitate the process of product procurement approvals, on‑boarding and launch to market.
  • Managing,, innovating, and enhancing existing products through its life cycle; and/or manage the process of product decommissioning.
  • Setting direction for the team and developing and taking accountability for a business plan which is aligned to the business strategy.
  • Integrating delivery and metrics across the people, process, finance, and customer dimensions of the business at a strategic or tactical level.
  • Delivering on strategic projects as sponsor or owner.
  • Being accountable for thought leadership and best operating practice in response to external environment.
  • Strong focus on cross functional operation and networking across internal and external boundaries.
  • Ability to operate operationally, tactically, and strategically.
  • Strong focus on the customer and maintaining the customer relationships.
Experience & Technical Proficiencies
  • Matric/ Grade 12
  • Relevant tertiary degree.
  • 8 to 10 years of applicable product/business experience.
  • A Qualified Actuary with a minimum of 8 years actuarial experience is preferable.
  • Suitable mathematical or financial qualifications (CA, CFA, MBA, or suitable equivalent) with at least 8 years’ work experience.
  • Experience in relevant areas, such as commercial umbrella funds, investment platforms, employee benefits, asset consulting, investment management, market risk management, and investment product development preferable.
  • Experience consulting to large corporate clients.
  • Experience with leading agile business practices preferable.
