ROLE PURPOSE :
Reporting to the National SHEQ Manager, this position aims to strengthen the SHEQ leadership structure by assigning a dedicated SHE Manager to the Construction division. The incumbent will be responsible for SHEQ implementation and compliance within this focus area, enabling the National SHEQ Manager to focus on strategic oversight, governance, and continuous improvement across the organization.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Lead and manage all SHEQ activities for the Construction division nationally, aligning with company and client standards.
- Ensure compliance with OHSA, MHSA, and relevant regulations and standards.
- Oversee the compilation, implementation, and maintenance of Safety files and Contractor packs for sites/projects.
- Support Safety Officers within the Construction department.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and compliance checks.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and ensure effective closure and preventive measures.
- Represent the company during external audits and inspections.
- Report SHEQ performance monthly and as required to the National SHEQ Manager.
- Promote a safety culture and proactive risk management throughout operations.
- Plan and resource SHEQ activities for tenders and project initiation.
- Track and close non-conformances, near misses, and audit findings, maintaining a live corrective action register.
- Engage with clients, contractors, and authorities on SHEQ compliance and inspections.
- Monitor contractor compliance and evaluate safety documentation before site mobilization.
- Contribute to SHEQ performance reports for executive dashboards, including risk trends and interventions.
- Foster cross-site learning and best practice sharing to build a proactive SHEQ culture.
COMPETENCY PROFILE
Related Experience
- Minimum 8 years' experience as a Safety Manager or similar in a multi-site construction environment.
- Experience with MHSA and OHSA legislative frameworks.
- Experience in Mining, Petrochemical, Power Generation, or Water Treatment sectors is advantageous.
Qualifications
- BTech / Advanced Diploma in Safety Management (NQF level 7) – Essential
Other Requirements
- Own transport and valid driver’s license; willingness to travel extensively.
- SACPCMP registration at CHSM level – Essential
- COMSOC 1 & 2 – Essential
- Proven ability to manage HSEC and Passport 360 systems, and compliance documentation.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation (MHSA & OHSA).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and administrative skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure.
