The Role: Construction Health and Safety Consultant
This role exists to support the delivery of CHS Agent services on complex construction projects, working under the guidance of a Pr. CHSA. You will be responsible for overseeing safety compliance, conducting site inspections, preparing documentation, and collaborating closely with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders. The position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong communication in Afrikaans, and the ability to operate confidently within high-risk environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction health and safety, with proven progression in responsibilities

  • Perform CHS Agent duties under the supervision of a Pr. CHSA

  • Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and compliance audits

  • Develop, review, and implement project-specific safety documentation and plans

  • Coordinate with contractors, site teams, and project professionals on safety requirements

  • Investigate incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions

  • Ensure adherence to the OHS Act, relevant regulations, and applicable labour and environmental legislation

  • Provide training, mentoring, and safety guidance to site personnel

  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and administrative documentation

About You

  • 5+ years of demonstrated construction health and safety experience

  • SACPCMP registration: Can.CHSM, CHSM, or Can.CHSA (essential)

  • Qualifications aligned to SACPCMP requirements; diploma/degree in CHS, OHS, Safety Management, or related field preferred

  • Fully proficient in Afrikaans (read, write, speak) and English

  • Strong understanding of the OHS Act, COIDA, BCEA, and environmental legislation

  • Skilled in incident investigation, auditing, compliance management, and CHS documentation

  • Confident working on complex or high-risk construction projects

  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement abilities

  • High attention to detail and exceptional organisational skills

  • Physically fit and able to work at heights and in challenging site conditions

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

  • Own reliable transport and excellent overall health

  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work under pressure

  • Willing to learn, develop, and contribute within a highly professional team

  • Preference for male candidates due to high-risk site requirements
