Business Development Specialist - Recruitment BD & Candidate Outreach (Remote - Cape Town)
About This Role
Do you thrive on camera? Can you talk to UK founders AND source great candidates? Are you comfortable recording 50‑90 personalized videos per week? HFBAC is a UK‑based boutique recruitment consultancy helping bootstrapped founders and startups build founding teams using our Chemistry First methodology. We’re scaling and need someone who can drive BOTH client development AND candidate sourcing. This is a hybrid BD recruiting role. You’ll spend roughly half your time reaching out to potential clients (UK‑ and US‑based founders) and the other half sourcing and engaging candidates for our live searches. If you only want to do one or the other, this isn’t the right fit.
The Details
- Hours: 25 hours/week (part‑time with pathway to full‑time)
- Base Pay: R19 000/month (790 GBP)
- Uncapped Performance Bonuses: R480 per discovery call booked (20 %) and R1 920 per placement (80 %)
- Total Earning Potential: R19 000‑28 000/month (790‑1 180 GBP)

What You’ll Do
Client Outreach (40‑60 %)
- Record 25‑45 personalized video messages per week to UK‑ and US‑based founders (Loom/Hippo Video)
- Send personalized LinkedIn connection requests to target prospects
- Qualify inbound leads and book discovery calls with potential new clients for Helen
- Promote workshops and lead magnets to target audiences
Candidate Sourcing (40‑60 %)
- Record 25‑45 personalized video messages per week to potential candidates
- Source candidates on LinkedIn for active searches
- Screen initial candidate responses and schedule interviews
- Manage prospect and candidate pipelines in CRM (Recruiterflow)
Must‑Haves (Non‑Negotiable)
- Comfortable on camera – you’ll record 50‑90 short videos per week. This is the core of the role.
- Strong English (written and spoken) – you’re talking to UK/international founders AND candidates.
- LinkedIn experience – you understand how to use LinkedIn for B2B outreach AND recruiting.
- 2 years in recruitment with outreach/sales (outbound sales lead generation recruiting and/or business development).
- Proactive and self‑motivated – you identify targets without being told who to reach out to.
- Organised – you track your outreach follow‑ups and metrics diligently.
- Reliable internet (10 Mbps) and quiet workspace for video recording.
- Some UK timezone overlap for weekly check‑ins with Helen.
Nice‑to‑Haves
- Experience with video outreach tools (Loom Vidyard BombBomb – we will provide).
- LinkedIn Sales Navigator experience.
- Dual experience: Both sales/lead generation AND recruitment/sourcing.
- Recruitment background – you understand hiring and candidate sourcing.
- Startup experience ideally – you understand founder and candidate perspectives.
- CRM experience (Recruiterflow ideally).

- You don’t have sales OR recruitment experience.
- You can’t juggle both client outreach and candidate sourcing.
Compensation & Growth Pathway
Starting Package (Month 1‑3):
- Base: R19 000/month (790 GBP) for 25 hours/week.
- Discovery Call Bonus: R480 per qualified call booked with Helen.
- Placement Bonus: R1 920 per successful placement from your pipeline.
- Realistic Month 1‑3 Total: R19 000‑22 700/month (790‑945 GBP).
Growth Potential (Month 4) – ideally you’ll be full‑time by then (40 hours per week) or we can add another part‑time BD specialist alongside you:
- Hitting targets: R22 700‑28 300/month (945‑1 180 GBP) (this is for 25 hours per week and would increase pro‑rata if you increase your hours).
- Full‑time progression: Opportunity to move to 35‑40 hours/week as business grows.
- Senior BD role: Pathway to Senior BD Specialist or Client Success Manager.

How to Apply

Step 2: Helen Reviews (Daily)
Helen will review applications daily. If you’re a potential fit please look out for an email within 1 week with a link to the first‑stage assessment (Step 3a).
Step 3a: One‑Way Video Interview (20 mins)
A one‑way video audio and text assessment via XInterview or Hirevire.
Step 3b: Video Interview with Helen (45 mins)
If shortlisted a live video call via Google Meet with Helen to discuss your experience, working style and fit.
Step 4: Paid Trial Week (10‑15 hours)
If Steps 3a and 3b go well do a paid trial week. You’ll:
- Research 15 client prospects and 15 candidate prospects.
- Record and send 30 personalized video messages (15 clients + 15 candidates).
- Track responses and report results.
- Book at least 1‑2 discovery calls and/or deliver 3‑5 candidate profiles.
Payment: R2 400‑3 600 (100‑150 GBP).
Step 5: Decision
We both decide if this is right. If yes we start the part‑time engagement. If no we part ways respectfully (and you got paid).
Total timeline: 4‑8 weeks from application to start.
