Travel: Frequent local and international travel required

Our client, a fast-growing multinational leader in agricultural commodities and animal nutrition, is seeking an ambitious Business Development Manager – Feed Additives to drive commercial growth across Southern Africa.

This is a strategic commercial role for a specialist who understands both feed additive trading and technical market development. The position forms part of a dynamic global team and will focus on expanding market share, building sustainable commercial strategies, and strengthening customer and distributor partnerships across the region.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management
  • Develop and implement sales strategies for amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, and specialty feed additives within feed mills, integrated operations, and premix manufacturers.
  • Grow and manage relationships with key accounts and distributors.
  • Drive business development in both direct and indirect sales channels.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activity, and regional dynamics.
  • Forecast sales, volume, margins, and market growth across countries and product segments for budgeting and planning.
Trading & Business Operations
  • Execute trading activities to optimise buying and selling positions.
  • Operate within established trading limits and risk management procedures.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms to maximise margins.
  • Coordinate with logistics for import/export planning and documentation control.
  • Manage inventory planning, stock holding levels, and product availability.
  • Support warehousing and logistics to ensure efficient service delivery.
Customer & Market Development
  • Maintain strong relationships with integrators, feed mills, premix companies, and distribution partners.
  • Deliver commercial and technical presentations in collaboration with the nutrition and technical team.
  • Represent the business at trade shows, exhibitions, and technical forums.
  • Gather and communicate market intelligence, customer insights, and product needs.
D. Strategic Growth
  • Identify opportunities for new products aligned with market requirements.
  • Support business development initiatives, partnerships, and agency agreements.
  • Contribute to long‑term strategic positioning across the SADC region.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Revenue and margin growth per country and product category.
  • Market share expansion and customer acquisition.
  • Trading performance and margin optimisation.
  • Stock forecasting accuracy and inventory turnover.
  • Reporting accuracy and contribution to brand presence in the region.
  • Retention of key accounts and distributor performance.
  • Alignment with global trading standards and corporate values.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agribusiness, or Commerce (MBA/Postgraduate advantage).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the feed additive, premix, or animal nutrition sector.
  • Demonstrable success in sales, business development, or regional commercial management.
  • Strong network across feed manufacturers, distributors, and integrators in South Africa and/or Southern Africa.
  • Experience with import/export value chains and trading principles.
  • Excellent commercial negotiation skills, communication ability, and cross‑cultural relationship management.
