Job description
How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

In this position the operator will be required to fill Specialty Gas, Flammable Gas and Inert Gas Mixtures. The incumbent must be a person with the aptitude to be trained and promotable to operate Floxfill, Toxic Gas and Oxyfuel Filling rooms. The incumbent may be required to work shifts. The majority of the mixtures they produce are established mixtures that are made to stock.

In this position the incumbent is required to always put safety of self as well all his or her colleagues first. They would be required to manage safety protection equipment in their area of work as well as that in the surrounding areas. As a result of these the incumbent will have a very strong chemistry background. They are required to make sure that they observe material compatibility prior to blending in line with the written procedures.

Main Accountabilities
  • Identify & sort cylinders to prepare for filling in line with the filling order mixture, blend the gas mixtures in line with the day’s production plan both in terms of quantity and target mixtures, manage raw materials required for their mixtures as well as manage and maintain the required stock levels.
  • Ensure that completed cylinder mixtures are correctly prepared for analysis e.g. homogenizing, liaise with the Speciality Gas Laboratory on the success and completion of mixtures sent for analysis.
  • Minimise the quantity of cylinders requiring rework through adhering to procedures.
  • Manage in service verification of blending equipment e.g. scale, gauges etc and participate in the writing up and updating of procedures for the areas where they work.
  • Participate in the training and qualification of new blenders that join the department.
  • Record abnormal situations e.g. incidents, accidents, potentially serious safety incidents, near misses.

  • Job duties are determined daily by local leadership.
  • Scope: Narrow. Limited to 1‑2 basic functions at a single site.
  • Report to onsite supervisor.

  • N6 in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Chem Ops Level 4 will be advantageous

Cylinder stock management

Compatibility of Materials

Know risks related to flammable gases, toxic gases and flammable gases.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Situated in Alrode. Shift work as per organizational needs. There are also requirements to work overtime from time to time.
