VACANCY: 400 kV tx Substation Construction Manager

Role Purpose: Responsible for the full site management, coordination, and execution of construction activities for 400 kV high-voltage substations — including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical works — to ensure safe, on-time, and cost-effective project delivery in accordance with design specifications, client standards, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all on-site construction activities for 400 kV transmission substations from site establishment to commissioning handover.
 
- Manage civil, mechanical, and electrical installation of transformers, switchgear, busbars, gantries, control buildings, protection panels, and associated equipment.
 
- Ensure compliance with EPC design drawings, SANS/IEC standards, and utility specifications.
 
- Lead construction teams, subcontractors, and site supervisors, ensuring proper task allocation and productivity.
 
- Enforce HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) standards and ensure all work complies with statutory and company safety policies.
 
- Coordinate with client representatives, engineering teams, OEM suppliers, and quality inspectors.
 
- Review and monitor project schedules, progress reports, and construction budgets.
 
- Conduct QA/QC inspections, testing, and punch-list management to ensure high-quality installation.
 
- Manage site documentation, including daily reports, method statements, risk assessments, and material delivery records.
 
- Support commissioning and energization activities, ensuring readiness and system integrity prior to handover.
 
- Identify and mitigate potential construction risks and delays.
 
- Participate in progress meetings and provide accurate updates on construction milestones.
 
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical / Civil Engineering or equivalent.
 
- Minimum 5 years experience in HV / EHV substation construction (132 kV–400 kV).
 
- Proven experience in managing GIS/AIS substation projects under EPC or utility contracts.
 
- Strong understanding of transmission systems, protection schemes, and construction sequencing.
 
- Familiarity with NEC/FIDIC contracts and site management procedures.
 
- Valid construction site safety training (SHE, OHS Act, etc.) certification.
 
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
 
- Proficiency in MS Project / Primavera, and reporting tools.
