Job summary

A marine services company based in Johor is seeking a Technical Superintendent for their towage business. This role involves coordinating maintenance and repair activities, supervising yard docking, and ensuring compliance with maritime regulations. The ideal candidate holds a Diploma in Marine Engineering and has at least 5 years of relevant experience in the shipping industry. Strong interpersonal, analytical, and managerial skills are essential, and the candidate must possess a valid Malaysia International Passport for travel.

Technical Superintendent - Towage Business

The position is based in Johor and will involve travel within Malaysia.

Co-ordinates maintenance and repair activities in accordance with classification society’s rule and regulations, and operations requirements in the most cost-effective manner.

Work with Master and Chief Engineer of marine craft regarding repairs for writing of specifications to be sent to yards for quotation.

Monitors all major technical problems of marine crafts to be repaired immediately and/or to be repaired during docking.

Supervises the appointed yard regarding docking and repairs of marine craft.

Prepares and organises the marine crafts for survey by the classification bodies.

Assists in project modifications/conversions of marine crafts, inspection and costing.

Liaises with Purchasing Department in the requisition and approval of spares according to specifications of repair.

Reviews and monitors monthly maintenance report and solves technical problem.

Organises shore assistant to attend to repairs and conducts random spot checks on board marine crafts.

Discusses with Technical Manager on the condition and status of the vessels on a weekly basis.

To ensure all marine team activities are done within best safe marine practice.

Prepare and monitors annual budgets for the vessels assigned to him/her.

Authorise contracts with contractors within the approval limit and after discussion with the Technical Manager.

Instruct, direct and coach watchkeeping engineers onboard and manage their competency.

Authorises commitments and/or expenses in compliance with authorisation rules.

Ensures that marine vessels operations are optimized by reviewing productivity and efficiency.

Safety & Quality orientated.

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in Marine Engineering/ Certificate of Competency (COC) Class 3 in motorship and or relevant Technical Marine experience.

5 years of relevant experience in the shipping or maritime industry within similar capacity.

Good interpersonal and managerial skills.

Experience with MS Office related software.

Good verbal and written English.

Analytical individual with strong problem-solving skills.

Valid Malaysia International Passport for travel without restrictions.
