Head of Library

Start Date: August 2026
Contract Type: Full Time, Fixed Term

About the School

We are recruiting for a highly regarded international school in Indonesia, located on an impressive 44-acre campus in the vibrant city of Jakarta. The school is a welcoming, inclusive community representing over 50 nationalities and providing education for students aged 2 to 18 years.

Situated in South West Jakarta, the campus offers outstanding facilities that support academic excellence, wellbeing, and independent learning. The curriculum begins with the UK Early Years Foundation Stage, progresses through the English National Curriculum and inquiry-based learning in Primary, and continues into the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP), and Career-related Programme (CP) in Secondary. The library plays a central role in supporting literacy, research skills, academic integrity, and a culture of curiosity across the whole school.

The Role

Following an increase in student enrolment, the school is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Library to lead the development of library spaces and services from August 2026. This is a whole-school leadership role spanning Early Years through to Year 13, with responsibility for shaping a future-ready library provision that supports learning, wellbeing, and independent inquiry.

The successful candidate will provide strategic direction for the library, ensuring it remains a dynamic hub that nurtures reading, research, digital literacy, and intellectual curiosity, while supporting the schools long-term infrastructure and development plans.

Key Responsibilities

The Head of Library will lead the development of inspiring, inclusive library spaces and services across Primary and Secondary, fostering a love of reading and learning from Early Years to Sixth Form. They will shape and oversee a whole-school research and information-literacy curriculum, ensuring students develop age-appropriate skills that culminate in confident, ethical research at IB Diploma level.

A key aspect of the role is guiding and supporting major IB milestones, including the MYP Personal Project and the IB DP Extended Essay, through expert teaching, resource provision, and academic honesty guidance.

The role also includes managing and developing diverse print and digital collections that reflect the schools global outlook, inclusivity, and curriculum priorities, as well as supporting student wellbeing. The Head of Library will lead and develop the library team, strengthening professional practice and supporting staff and students through periods of change as the school advances its long-term infrastructure plans.

Collaboration is central to the role. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and school leaders to embed library provision into teaching and learning, and to ensure the school meets the expectations of IB, CIS, and other accreditation frameworks.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should hold relevant professional qualifications and demonstrate a minimum of five years relevant experience in a school library or information-management leadership role. Outstanding knowledge of library practice, research skills development, and digital literacy is essential.

The school is seeking a collaborative and highly organised professional with excellent communication skills, the ability to work closely with teachers and leaders, and a strong commitment to exemplary teaching and learning. Enthusiasm, adaptability, and a student-centred approach are key attributes for success in this role.

  • Annual flights for the Head of Library and eligible dependents
  • Comprehensive international medical insurance (excluding the U.S.)
  • Housing and cost-of-living allowance
  • Relocation allowance
  • End-of-contract gratuity equivalent to 25% of annual base salary
  • All local tax obligations fully covered by the school
