Job description

23 hours per week. We are seeking B5Registered Nurses to join our team.

Edgcumbe Ward is a specialist dementia 11 bedded assessment unit based at Mount Gould Hospital in Plymouth. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered MentalHealth or General Nurse to join our team.

We are looking for applicants who have an interest in the care of people with Dementia and want to develop their clinical and assessment skills in both mental and physical health.

The post holder will work a range of shifts including long days, early, late and night shifts over a 7 day period.

We welcome applications from people who may already have experience or who may be recently qualified.

This rewarding role will provide the successful post holder the opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of dementia care within the Plymouth area.

This role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route, please refer to the Direct Gov website for more information with regards to eligibility.

All Livewell staff are expected to be able and willing to work across a 7 day service.

Main duties of the job

Edgcumbe ward is an 11 bedded dementia assessment unit based in Plymouth providing 24-hour care for people whose needs require specialist assessment.

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care. Edgcumbe works within an MDT model with nursing staff / OTs / Physios and Medics.

The post holders will have a passion for the care of people with dementia. Previous experience of working with dementia is preferable however, this post is also suitable for people who are recently qualified.

Following a period of induction post holders will be designated as in charge of some shifts as well as completing medication and ward rounds.

Following a period of development, the post holder will have the opportunity to share their knowledge through providing supervision to junior staff. Opportunities will be provided for the post holder to take a lead role in an area they are interested in, as well as further training to develop the skills they have already acquired.

The post holder will be involved in all aspects of care including meeting patients holistic care needs, personal care, meeting physical health needs and where needed supporting End of Life care.

Job responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Post

Utilise professional skills to assess, plan and implement and deliver care to patients who are in an acute phase of their illness.

Organise the provision of care and act as named professional within a care team for a specified group of patients.

To function as a member of a multidisciplinary team taking appropriate responsibility for the implementation of the decisions made by the team.

Ensure planned nursing care is implemented and evaluated.

Participate in training programmes for both trained and untrained staff.

In conjunction with the university and senior staff nurses ensure training programmes/objectives for student nurses are implemented.

To be responsible for implementing drug administration procedures according to policy.

Maintain standards of care to the highest level within available resources.

To actively participate in line management and appraisals with senior and junior members of staff.

Tolaise effectively with other wards and services. To develop and maintain relationships with providers statutory and non-statutory.

Tomaintain confidentiality in respect of the patient/client at all times.

Communicate clearly with patients, their families and all other mental health professional groups about their health problems and care plan.

Play an active role in CPA multi disciplinary reviews and ward rounds, reporting on the assessment of the patients progress and participating further in MDT Care Planning.

Ensure that patients are encouraged to play a part in the Care Plan they receive to promote person centred planning.

Attend and participate in meetings ie. Case Conference, Mental Health review tribunals and Best Interests meetings.

To actively participate and provide clinical supervision.

To have a working knowledge of Livewell Southwests Policies and Guidance.

Toward take Physical Intervention training as provided by the Trust.

To ensure compliance with the Trusts clinical record keeping policy.

To have a competent and robust knowledge of legislation including Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty safeguards.

Tosupport the Induction and Preceptorship program.

To ensure mandatory training is up to date and be able to undertake in their own workplace.

Tobe able to assess and manage risk for their personal safety and the safety of their colleagues within the relevant policies.

Towork in accordance with the NMC guidelines around CPD.

To at all times work within the NMC Code of Conduct.

The post holder is required to comply with all infection control, policies and guidance, attend relevant updates and report issues of concern to their immediate line manager (if no action or explanation received, then it is the individual's responsibility to escalate to Director of Operations / Chief Executive office).
