Full time (37.5h/week)

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and motivated Pain Management Service, working cross‑site at Chelsea & Westminster and West Middlesex University Hospitals. The service provides highly specialised services to adult and paediatric patients with acute and chronic pain within a multidisciplinary setting. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist you will support all areas of the service and work alongside the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist to develop both individual staff and the service as a whole.

The outpatient role involves supporting the pain clinic, neuromodulation and capsaicin service, as well as conducting TENS, post‑procedure follow‑up and medication review clinics.

The post holder must demonstrate excellent communication skills, be a role model, enthusiastic and able to motivate and support individuals in the team, enabling ongoing development of the service. You will also be responsible for providing education and assisting in developing audit and research strategies for the service.

There is great scope in this role to develop both personally and professionally. We seek an individual with experience within a pain management service who is looking for a developmental opportunity or a new challenge.

Main duties of the job
  • Receiving referrals
  • Providing skilled assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of specialist care within defined guidelines and protocols
  • Referring to other disciplines and agencies
  • Providing expert advice and guidance to nurses and other disciplines
  • Providing specialist training and education to own and other professions
  • Setting and monitoring standards of care and treatment
  • Participating in audit and research activity
  • Providing skilled professional leadership
  • Ensuring effective communication between all service providers across the care pathway

The post holder will play a key role in improving the delivery of our service to meet the needs of our patients, working in both the inpatient and outpatient pain service. You will review inpatients with acute and chronic pain and support the pain clinic, neuromodulation and capsaicin service. The role is integrated and requires close collaboration with the wider pain team. The multidisciplinary team includes physiotherapists, psychologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists and pain physicians. The successful applicant will be a valuable addition to this team.
