Job description

Interviews for this post will be held on Tuesday 10th March 2026, with pre‑interview engagement days scheduled for Friday 6th March and Monday 9th March 2026. You will be required to attend in person. Please make a note of these dates and ensure you are able to attend in person.

Health and Care Jersey is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic substantive Consultant in Neurology. The successful applicant will provide services in Neurology in conjunction with an Acute Medicine Consultant with specialist interest in Neurology, a Neurology Middle Grade and a Neurosurgical Clinical Fellow.

Main duties of the job
  • Jointly develop a service of excellence for neurology which ensures a seamless integration between Jersey and tertiary centres in England.
  • Participate in the development of the neurology strategy for the island of Jersey including neurological services.
  • Work in close partnership and liaison with Primary Care and other specialist services.
  • Undertake inpatient specialist reviews for neurology.
  • Undertake outpatient clinics for neurology.
  • Provide clinical advice and support to primary care colleagues and other consultants within Health and Care Jersey medical model.
  • Deliver personalised, evidence‑informed medical care plans to all patients that are appropriately documented and regularly evaluated.
  • Provide advice and timely medical reviews and interventions as part of the interdisciplinary model of care.
  • Participate and attend relevant services MDTs.
  • Liaise with tertiary referral centres as appropriate to provide patient‑centred care and service improvements.
  • Maintain good quality, up‑to‑date medical records including timely discharge letters and summaries.

Job responsibilities

The role includes clinical governance activity, continuing medical education, and close working with the Clinical Director and Chief of Service regarding service provision and expansion. The consultant will also:

  • Participate in the clinical governance or management meeting held regularly.
  • Contribute to the education of junior medical staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals.
  • Take part in management and audit activities to support the Care Group Leadership team.
  • Be fully involved in a risk management programme and support the governance agenda.
  • Represent the service at hospital meetings as agreed with colleagues.
  • Support research activities where appropriate.
Person Specification
Essential
  • Participation in Clinical Audit & Risk Management Activities.
  • Commitment to safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Annual appraisal evidence.
  • Evidence of research and publication in peer reviewed journals.
  • IT literate.
  • Primary Medical Degree.
  • Higher Specialty qualification: MRCP or equivalent.
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice.
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register/Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within 6 months of obtaining this at the date of interview – documentary evidence required.
  • Clinical experience in a similar NHS environment or equivalent.
  • ALS competency.
  • Evidence of adequate training and/or experience as CCDC.
  • Broad range of IT skills.
Desirable
  • MD.
  • Broad experience in general medicine.
  • Previous management responsibility / leadership experience.
  • General medicine on‑call consultant experience.
  • Experience of service planning.
