Job summary

An innovative animation production company is seeking a trainee to assist in various production tasks, including maintaining schedules and attending meetings. Overview

Contract: Fixed term, part time, PAYE

Dates: Part time, 1 day per week, from 17 November 2025 to 18 December 2026, approx. 60 days over 13 months

Animate Projects Productions Limited (APPL) is an independent animation production company. It is a new sister company to Animate Projects, an organisation that exists to support artists to experiment, collaborate and produce bold animation projects. APPL is currently producing:

  • Re-Mind by Dominica Harrison, a short that mixes digital animation and printing techniques. The production is supported by the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery
  • Hand painted animation Daughters of the Late Colonel by award-winning writer-director Elizabeth Hobbs. This production is supported by co-producers Phil Davies Films and Fabian&Fred.

Animate supports artists to experiment, collaborate and produce bold animation projects. Led by Abigail Addison and Gary Thomas, since 2007 they have produced high-quality, innovative, experimental, and engaging films. Their award-winning productions include: The Debutante by Elizabeth Hobbs, which was Oscar shortlisted and won the Animated Short Jury Award at South by South West. And Granny Would Dance by Maryam Mohajer, which won Best of Festival and Best Animation awards at Aesthetica Short Film Festival.

APPL is looking to recruit a trainee who has a passion for artistic animated work, experience with animation production, and is keen to develop a career in production. Over the course of 13 months, you will see the journey of a short animation production as it moves from pre-production through to delivery and distribution. You will support us with the production and delivery of our films that are in production, plus assist with other development activity. You will be mentored by the producer and be an integral part of the production teams.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining schedules and shot lists
  • Collating information from the crew
  • Attending production meetings and taking notes
  • File management
  • Research support
  • Booking travel and purchasing materials
  • Producing regular reports to be submitted to stakeholders
  • Post production organisation
  • Liaising with crew members, producers, and funders
  • Any other tasks as may be reasonably required

Knowledge, skills & experience

  • Interest in working in animation production as a career
  • Experience of organising and working with Google Drive and Word documents and Dropbox folders
  • Experience of working with spreadsheets and budgets
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional time management and prioritisation skills
  • Confident self-starter
  • Experience of managing animation projects
  • Knowledge of the 2D animation pipeline
  • Experience of working with animation and editing software such as TVPaint, After Effects, Dragonframe, and Premiere is desirable but not essential
