Description
The Reading Chronicle is looking for a top-class sports reporter to cover League One side Reading FC.
This rare and exciting opportunity at a top-performing regional newspaper will be perfect for a digitally-focused journalist who can shape our online coverage and handle the pressures that come with a high-profile position that commands a significant local following.
You will be passionate about digital storytelling, be hard-working, full of ideas and have a desire to come up with innovative ways of presenting stories across various platforms.
Key Responsibilities
From live matchday blogs, player interviews, and transfer gossip to must-read exclusives, comments and analysis – you must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
And you will be confident in exploring new ways of reaching digital audiences, from Q&As and podcasts to Facebook live broadcasts.
You will be based at our office in Reading, but will see most of the UK travelling far and wide to cover matches.
We are looking for a diverse newsroom and welcome candidates with a variety of qualifications and backgrounds – our number one priority is to get the perfect reporter to represent us in the press box and be the eyes and ears for thousands of fans.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Digitally focused – and know how to deliver stories in the most engaging way
- Hold afull, clean UK driving licence (essential).
- Full of digital ideas and confident in how to make them sing online
- Ready to try new ideas and have some fun with them
- Ready to delve into analytics and know how to use them to maximise digital traffic – and hungry to learn
- Driven to get the best stories for our audience – and get out there and talk to people
- Keen to get under the skin of the community you are serving and dig out the exclusives we are looking for
- A talented trainee or senior willing to work hard and get the best out of a busy patch
- Keen to develop your SEO skills and have a working knowledge of it
- Good at spotting national/regional content that could resonate in your patch and making it relevant and interesting to our readers
- Keen to join forces with your Newsquest counterparts across the UK to share ideas, best practice, success stories and skills
- Demonstrate skills with shooting and editing video, as well as experience in audio and podcasts
