A regional mental health provider is looking for a Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner to deliver care in women's prisons. The successful candidate will be an experienced clinician offering comprehensive services to women dealing with mental health challenges during the perinatal period. Key responsibilities include working closely with healthcare teams and providing direct care to those in need. Candidates should hold a relevant qualification and possess significant mental health experience.
Job summary: An exciting Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner role has become available to provide Perinatal Mental Health care, advice, training, and supervision into two women's prisons in West Yorkshire.
The successful candidate will be an experienced clinician who will offer a comprehensive Perinatal Mental Health Service in a forensic setting to women who are experiencing mental Health difficulties within the prison environment during the perinatal period.
They will provide direct care to women who will present with a range of difficulties from moderate to severe acute mental illness to co-morbid complex psychological, health and social care needs.
The post holders will work closely with the Specialist Midwife and Prison Healthcare Team to ensure that women receive an integrated perinatal care package following admission, referral, and assessment.
The Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner will work both autonomously and alongside the wider MDT in assessing, planning, and implementing care whilst maintaining associated healthcare records within the custodial setting.
They will demonstrate advanced clinical competence in specialist Perinatal interventions.
The Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner will work alongside the Prison Service MDT to provide appropriate care and support to women with mental health difficulties during the perinatal period.
They will undertake assessments in conjunction with the Prison Service and provide advice and input to care planning, including safeguarding and risk management.
Management and clinical supervision (including safeguarding, psychology and medical) will be provided for the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner by the Leeds Perinatal Service.
The post holders will be based primarily at HMP New Hall but will also undertake duties at both prisons, (HMP New Hall and Askham Grange), as required and attend any relevant service meetings at the Perinatal Mental Health service.
The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds.

Essential qualifications: Bsc/BA/Diploma or Masters in Mental Health Nursing/Occupational Therapy/Social Work and be registered with the relevant governing body
