Job description

Are you interested in Respiratory Physiotherapy? This exciting rotational opportunity is based in the Respiratory Team as part of University Hospitals Birmingham. The specialities at the trust include acute Non-Invasive Ventilation and Respiratory Support Units, regional Cystic Fibrosis centre, Home Mechanical Ventilation service including Paediatric Transition and Neuromuscular service, the Birmingham Regional Severe Asthma Service, Critical Care and Surgery.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative physiotherapist. You will need good clinical skills and experience; excellent team working and time management skills. You will work alongside specialist physiotherapists, providing respiratory care and rehabilitation to patients whilst working closely with the multi-professional team.

You will have the opportunity to supervise Physiotherapy students, junior Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers. Research and CPD opportunities are encouraged. Applicants will be required to participate in the departmental respiratory overnight on-call system and 7 day working rota within the Respiratory Therapy teams treating both adult and paediatric patients with Respiratory Physiotherapy on normal wards and Intensive Care Units as well as working as part of the NIV service.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Holding responsibility for own case load and being responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision.
  • Undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintaining associated records including working as part of a 7-day and overnight on-call service including NIV.
  • Assisting with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
  • Assisting with the supervision, education and co-ordination of physiotherapy assistants, physiotherapy technical instructors and junior physiotherapists.
