Job description

Are you a passionate, inspiring, and highly effective Teacher of Music ready to join an Outstanding mixed secondary school in Bedfordshire? We are seeking a dynamic and committed educator to become part of our thriving Music Department on a full-time, permanent basis from September 2025.

About Our School

Our school is proud to be an Outstanding mixed secondary school, deeply rooted in the Bedfordshire community. We are dedicated to providing an exceptional education that fosters academic excellence, personal growth, and a lifelong love of learning for all our students. We believe in nurturing creative minds, encouraging critical thinking, and preparing students for success in their future pathways. Our inclusive environment celebrates diversity and promotes a strong sense of community and mutual respect.

About Our Music Department

Our Music Department is a vibrant, innovative, and highly collaborative team, committed to delivering an outstanding music education across all key stages. We boast modern, exceptionally well-equipped practice rooms, recording facilities, and a wide array of instruments, fostering a strong commitment to practical, hands-on learning and performance. Our students are engaged, creative, and consistently achieve excellent academic results, with many progressing to leading universities and conservatoires to study music. We actively encourage interdisciplinary learning and offer a wide range of enriching extracurricular music clubs and activities, including choirs, orchestras, bands, and performance opportunities, that extend learning beyond the classroom.

What We Offer You

  • A Supportive and Collaborative Environment: Work alongside a team of highly experienced and enthusiastic music specialists who are dedicated to sharing best practices, fostering professional growth, and supporting one another.

  • Exceptional Resources and Facilities: Teach in state-of-the-art music rooms with access to a wide array of instruments, technology, and innovative teaching resources designed to enhance student learning and creativity.

  • Professional Growth Opportunities: We are deeply committed to the ongoing professional development of our staff, offering ample opportunities for training, leadership development, and clear pathways for career progression within the school.

  • Engaged and Motivated Students: Teach bright, curious, and well-behaved students who are eager to learn and excel in music, thriving in a positive and challenging creative environment.

  • Competitive Salary and Benefits: An attractive remuneration package commensurate with your expertise and qualifications, reflecting our commitment to attracting and retaining the best talent.

  • Opportunity for KS5 Teaching: Your timetable will include teaching at Key Stage 5 (A-Level) in Music, guiding students to achieve their full potential at this advanced level.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Teacher of Music, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, challenging, and differentiated Music lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE).

  • Ideally, deliver high-quality Key Stage 5 (A-Level) teaching in Music, inspiring students to achieve academic excellence and prepare for higher education or careers in the arts.

  • Inspire students to develop a strong understanding and passion for musical principles, theory, performance, and composition.

  • Utilise a variety of effective teaching methods to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, fostering a creative and student-centred approach.

  • Assess student progress regularly, providing timely, constructive feedback and contributing to comprehensive student reports.

  • Contribute actively to the ongoing development of the Music curriculum and departmental resources, ensuring they remain current and engaging.

  • Participate in and, where appropriate, lead extracurricular music activities, including school concerts, productions, and ensembles, enriching the learning experience for all students.

  • Act as a form tutor, providing pastoral care and contributing positively to the wider life and ethos of the school community.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong academic background in Music at degree level or equivalent.

  • Proven experience teaching Music successfully across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 is essential.

  • Experience teaching Music effectively at Key Stage 5 (A-Level) is highly desirable.

  • A genuine passion for music and a profound commitment to inspiring the next generation of musicians and creative thinkers.

  • Excellent subject knowledge across the music curriculum, with the ability to teach a broad range of musical styles and disciplines.

  • A dynamic, adaptable, and innovative teaching style that fosters a love of learning and creativity.

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment.

  • A collaborative team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, eager to contribute to a thriving department and school community.

How to Apply

If you are an ambitious and dedicated Teacher of Music with proven Key Stage 4 and ideally Key Stage 5 teaching experience, looking for a challenging yet incredibly rewarding opportunity within an Outstanding secondary school, we would love to hear from you.

Please submit your CV and a compelling cover letter outlining your suitability for this role, explicitly stating your musical specialisms and any experience teaching at Key Stage 5. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt, and early application is strongly encouraged.
