Band 6 Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist - Service to Schools

We are looking for therapists to join our dynamic Speech and Language Therapy Service to Schools in Newham, East London.

• To provide a specialist level of assessment, therapy and recommendations to a range of children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties within the school setting, including planning, implementing and evaluating therapy for early years, primary and secondary school-aged children, writing EHCP advice and reports for annual reviews.
• To work jointly with more senior colleagues and other professionals to consider the specific communication needs of these children and plan therapy accordingly.
• To independently manage a large and complex caseload of children with diverse communication difficulties in mainstream schools, with emphasis on liaison with staff and training staff in delivering therapy suggestions.
• To co-ordinate and lead joint planning and working, set up therapy groups where appropriate and support more junior colleagues through joint working.
• To liaise with relevant professional staff in Health, Education and Social Services.
• To take part in supervising staff and students.

• Essential: Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent; Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice; Successful completion of core SLT competencies at band 5.
• Desirable: Registered Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists; Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups / CEN.

• Essential Experience: Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level; experience of assessment, intervention, goal setting and developing therapy programmes post-registration in a range of settings; experience in assessing and providing intervention for autistic children (communication); experience of community and schools based work; experience of working with multidisciplinary or multiagency partners.
• Desirable Experience: Experience of delivering training.

• Essential: Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy; negotiation and problem-solving; ability to work in partnership with other professionals and other agencies; working knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.

Salary: £44,485 to £52,521 a year, inc HCA
